Might want to start a new thread, this one is about why only the Auckland server performs badly compared to the others

hio77:

This to me sound like a device or setup issue not a connection issue.

I would have thought so too if I wasn't fairly confident in my devices and configuration, and the lack of any changes which could have caused it. I also wouldn't have mentioned it in this thread, except I observed the same threshold (about 70 Mbps) another user also posted about.

Thanks. I will do all the usual tests to rule out anything local before doing that. :)

i would log a fault. It's possible your on the wrong profile, but i would say 99.99% not the case.

@Bigpipenz will be able to have a peep.

My apologies, it was a false alarm, and my set up is not as reliable as I expected. It seems an OS update is the likely culprit (it's the only thing that could possibly have changed, and booting to a live USB shows that the speedtest is giving expected results).

I would delete all my posts to avoid cluttering up the thread but I'd feel bad leaving all the replies. :S

I know that I should know better than to test over WiFi...
But it’s not a wifi issue, definitely something up with the Spark Wellington Speedtest server.
All the ok tests are to Spark Chch or other providers in Wellington.
Yellow x’s are Spark Wellington server

Same sort of issues with me as well - I'm on Bigpipe 100/100.

Upload to the Spark Wellington server is under 30Mbps, wired or wireless. Spark Christchurch/Auckland or VF Wellington show full speeds.

k1w1k1d: So why do we get such low speeds to it?

Not a SamKnows user? [/joke]

to be clear, spark does no part in fiddling with speeds. Quite honestly, at the size of sparks network it's a heck of alot more feasible to just pass the traffic..

Hence the clear reference to it being a joke... a bit of a nod to this thread.

Very aware, jokes just miss many and i'd hate to see it end up front page of news based on a joke.....

Definitely something up with Spark Wellington. I'm in Wellington and I'm getting the same results using wifi and ethernet on both laptops, and using mobile data on my cell phone (which suggests it is not my 4G B618 modem at fault).

This screeen snip is from results taken today at 7.45am ish. The top and bottom results are Spark Wellington. The second one down is Wanna Internet in Hamilton, the next one down is Spark Auckland, the one below that is Spark ChCh, the one below that is ACSData Wellington. I've had the issue with tiny upload speeds with the Spark Wellington one since the weekend. The download speeds are not too different to usual, but I usually get between 25-48 Mbs upstream with Spark Wellington depending on day/time of day.

I think it's fair to say that the performance of the Wellington speedtest server is under investigation.

It doesn't appear to be spitting out the photons at the correct rate right now ....
