Just another thought, if I buy another router does anyone know if the TP-Link Archer C2300 Gigabit Wi-Fi Router is a good buy?

Why are you set on using alternative devices?

What problem are you trying to solve for?

If I get a new router from Spark, I will probably stick with it, but I don't see the problem with asking about alternatives if I end up having to purchase one. Yes I will probably look at Trademe for the HG659 and try that.

As the original post I can only seem to get about 200 up and down, and just thought i should have gotten more.

No harm in it, but you may find you've spent your money and ended up with a device that gives the same performance.

It's more of understanding your use case that your trying to fulfill.

For exqmple; If it's longer range wifi. That's a false economy. Since the device your using is always the limiting factor.

Sparks current modem is the smart modem. Far more advanced than the Hg659b

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Thanks hio77, will look at Sparks new smart system, hopefully once Spark get back to me, that is what they will send out. Is there somewhere on Sparks site to read up on this new smart system?

Interesting. I’m on Spark fibre max and routinely get ~500/~500. This is great and plenty but I’ve never seen download speeds higher than 500. Setup is good, gigabit ethernet, no traffic management etc, testing to Spark servers. Presumed I had hit some upper limit?

Cheers,
Joseph

What router, what test server, what network medium? Have you tried another test server?

You haven't hit a limit. Customers regularly get 8-900.. Even the standard residential test line in the office (which goes over multiple media converters and switches to get to the router) pushes a good 900 (or 700odd over wifi on the new modem!)

Much better than getting another third-party router that probably wouldn't have made any difference.
