Sorry, I didn't even ask about balance as I assumed it was included in the plan. It seems these aren't included with any plan actually (most plans will have a NZ/AU SMS bundle or unlimited but not international to other locations).

When sending the international SMS with $0 balance did you not get a response back from SparkNZ advising not enough credit to send the SMS?

If not then that is absolutely nuts! @hio77
