most likely ends up in the existing cupboard wall box, with Ethernet distribution points and 2 x power sockets. Also the satellite feed seems to come in there to a coax distribution.

Im doubtful due to length, sparkies could pull either end to bring OPTICAT through. Thats why it should be done properly before takeover.

There is two though, why? just doesn't make sense

Hi, as mentioned we need closer up photos of both what is hanging out of the wall and the end of the black cable in the conduit, if you have access to inside a photo of the inwall cabinet would be useful also

If you are talking about 2 x CAT6 coming out of wall its for the 2 separate units; makes sense to me we are separate dwellings.

But there are 4 in total, 2 at your exit point and two and your neighbours exit point why?

All apart from the black cable it seems clear. It appears we have OPTICAL (not OPTICAT) & CAT6 going in pics show the 2 cables and the internal box.

The black one is confusing sorry for poor focus, but it looks to be like a hollow cable inside a conduit???

OK, so looking at that you have 2x cat6 not sure why and 1x OptiCat5, so thats good, as for the black tube, my guess is if you cut the sheath back a bit you will find an inner green tube as well, so its setup for fibre, but that is not important, as you have a conduit going to the street front, Chorus will fill it with whatvever is required.

Microducts are miniaturized plastic conduits that sub-divide internal duct space into smaller compartments into which micro cables can be installed by blowing, jetting or pushing. You cant push adsl through those?

Only VDSL under Chorus can we get Fibre site.

Maybe I have never seen that done, only fibre cable in those ducts

Hi, its not really important, your setup has conduit for the meters to the verge where its choruses problem fill the conduit with copper or fibre, currently someone has put fibre micro duct in it, regardless this is easily fixed. What is good is that you have both copper and fibre options from the ETP to hub.

Thanks gents for replies it seems pretty clear the interconnects are satisfactory and Ive just noticed the 2 cat6.

The microduct I guess when VDSL is pushed through that, I should ask them to ensure fibre can easily be upgraded later.

One last question. It seems most in the villas are on cellphones and 4g data, and its possible I will be the only one on vdsl.

The unit is about 100m from roadside so does the owner have to pay for the cabling if it does not already exist?

I would have thought that was all covered by the developer, lets hope he has paid chorus to put copper in, if the Chorus site says its good to go then one would assume it is.

Is it possible that the age group of the other inmates is such that when they go to the Spark or Voda site they answer the question that their data usage is low, so get automatically directed toward a 4g solution, that is better for the ISP as it gets around the line cost.

I'll send a message to Chorus ask them if there is reticulation to site of villas from roadside.

Thanks Cyril. Al.

Greetings I want to ensure that the lead in is compliant with ADSL and future-proof for fibre.

There is a doc from Chorus which gives a general idea, but misses out on specifics.

The documentation you are looking for is here.

That photo shows what would be an ETP if the work was completed, except the white box is missing.

The underground copper lead-in (black) runs to a kerbside plinth. The premises wiring (blue) should terminate at a comms cabinet/ cupboard inside.

Feel free to mount a box & splice those cables together yourself.

If the lead-in is terminated at kerb plinth, Chorus have already inspected the wiring and signed it off.

If not, there will be a black cable protruding from a grey pipe at the property boundary (more likely in your case.).

The lead-in is copper but could be used as a fibre draw wire provided it's run in conduit & not laid bare (note: conduit isn't mandatory for "rural" addresses).
