Kraven:

I get 1-2ms between my BigPipe UFB connection and a couple of customer Spark UFB connections in Palmy. The reported BNG on my BigPipe connection is PM-BNG02.

As others have suggested though, shift to Inspire if you don't want traffic between sites leaving the city.

Good to know that technically it is possible, thanks for that.

Hi Kraven, would those be static or dynamic IPs I believe with Spark that they route/terminate quite differently @cbrpilot should be able to shed some light.

Also would very interested to hear from @cbrpilot on this. If it’s just a matter of requesting static IP’s on the Business Broadband accounts to get same city routing, then I’ll just do that :-)

If there is a difference in routing I would expect dynamic IPs to be routed more directly but not the other way round.

Hi Nbroad, can you PM me the details of the two circuits you are pinging between?  Can you confirm that they are both Spark (i.e. not Bigpipe or Skinny?)

We do indeed have a BNG in Palmerston North, and traffic between two lines in the same city should route directly.

Can't comment more until I see the details of the two lines.

thanks

Dave.

A quick update here for anyone interested.  If you require the lowest latency possible between two Spark broadband services in the same city they need to both be Static IP or both be Dynamic IP.

Traffic between Dynamic and Static IP addresses may be subject to slightly higher latency when on the same BNG.

In the long term, I will be making a change to optimise this, and in the short term I am investigating to see if we can alter this behaviour.

Thanks to nbroad for bringing this to my attention.
