I am aware of that and is the new Motorola handset going to work on SparkNZ VoLTE?

Spark says so.

Will this specific one work not bought from Spark? I think you know what I'm going to say

May not work still, check if it's using 3G to make a call or not.

Correct they may be a Sub model for Spark and a Sub model for OneNZ

I guess time will tell......

"Congratulations on your new Moto G 5G (2024)! We understand your concern about enabling VoLTE, especially for your upcoming travels to the US.Yes, the Moto G 5G (2024) does support VoLTE. For VoLTE to function correctly, both your phone and your carrier need to support it."

Looks like the G56 I bought does support VoLTE .
Finally some good news, maybee?  :-)

On my existing , old phone, the 4G icon disappears when I make a call .

@1101 did you read any of the previous posts about requiring the specific carrier's profile?

While supporting VoLTE is the first step, it's not the only thing the phone needs to enable it to work.

Given that the new phone is presumably already on its way, it's probably best at this point to wait and see, rather than conjecturing.

Yep, but it appears most of the info that been provided has overlooked based on the responses.

It's happened before to someone else, also from Dick Smith/Kogan; more info with an explanation can be found in this thread: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=312881

As to the Trademe query? Probably heaps.

As quickymart said, probably heaps. You only need to look at some of the ex-lease PC places pushing machines that aren't compatible with Windows 11 amongst "Fortnite compatible" PCs (I can't remember if I saw some of those that'd be stuck on Windows 10).

So long as they're careful with the wording, neither would really be breaking any laws, there are legit reasons for old phones or PCs that aren't compatible with current software and updates to be on the market. So long as they don't decieve mainly (such as promise/imply it'll work on a particular network with knowledge of upcoming changes that would stop it working - Consumer NZ named PB Tech a while back as potentially falling foul of this at one stage and they had to rush to get a solution for some of the phones they sold).
