Have you changed under advanced settings in uTorrent the option net.max_halfopen to, say 50? I use the same setting that i changed the tcpip.sys file using the utility from http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools (for XP, there are other tools for Vista).

Under the bandwith options, I had 500 max global connections, and 250 connections per torrent. Make sure the maximum download rate is set to [0: Unlimited]. Reduce the upload slots for each torrent to ~2. Set the global upload to something small like 8.

Under the BitTorrent options, make sure encryption is enabled, and allow incoming connections.

Make sure the torrents are well seeded. Generally, if you can get onto private trackers, you will get better speeds. I hope these suggestions will help your cause!

that is far too many connections for most routers to be able to handle properly.

I get decent speeds with only 8 connections per torrent in most cases - but eztv just use pirate bay, and since thats not a ratioed site there is no incentive for people to seed out so they will limit their upload speed so that their torrents that matter get all their capacity.

those speeds are not bad for that size torrent, i use azureus early version, mainly because it will tell me what speed i should be getting as it shows the average speed off all the seeders with a torrent that big it will speed up when the americans are online which is midnight to midday our time. another good thing about azureus is that it has a great FAQ online for setting up the program. it explains what each option does and the correct setting to use.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

i know that while on slingshot last year.. i would get a constant 1mb per second DL from other sources.. and get around 10ping to NZ servers for games.. but when downloading from rapidshare speeds would drop to below 1kb per second at peak times. "we do not cap download speeds" my ass.. :)

Hi Im on the xtra plan pro not capped 40gb a month.
Im not downloading torrents but i do have a rapidshare account and speeds have slowed right down.

And speedtest was 1am.

Ive changed the filter ,ethernet cable, and adsl line to the filter and even brought a new D-Link 502T modem off Trade Me.

So dnt know whats going on with my connection and I`m not blaming Xtra.

Geeks really know how to put you in your place.
