Telecom publishes the limits of its maintenance contract in the terms and conditions.
Maybe the problem is the range and quality of RJ45 jacks. All the BT were supplied or approved by Telecom. With a home network how would you limit the maintenance to telco related wiring, faulty ethernet connection no probs swap with phone. The wiring insurance may be on the way out??

Do you have a link to that or can you quote the specific clauses? I've been wondering what that covers for some time. I often look at jobs and wonder if I should be just referring the customer back to Telecom. While I'm always happy for people to give me money, I prefer not to do jobs where they've already paid for something they're entitled to.

You would think so but I suspect it is a nice little earner for Telecom and is money they won't want to give up.
I recently moved back to Telecom and wiring maintenance was automatically added to the account (despite me having declined it, but that's another issue).
The staff member at the Telecom shop (and this is a Telecom owned shop, not a dealer) was not able to tell me what the wiring maintenance covered. He thought it covered the wiring all the way to the exchange so if I didn't pay it then I could be up for a very expensive bill in future.
It is interesting that RJ45's aren't covered- perhaps it is because there are too many brands of switchgear out there? But then, RJ45 jacks are a hell of a lot cheaper than BT jacks (in my exp., and I'm an electrician - though granted maybe Chorus get then cheaper than they would get RJ45's?) is it a telepermit issue?
