does the voucher actually add any benefit in either network? don't they give you a disount when you re-sign for 24 month terms anyway? sounds like PR all round... also, if a telecom user with a voucher is is still inside a term its not like they can leave without a penalty anyway (same for a voda user in contract). i think that given the current state of things and the coming entrance of 2degrees it would be silly to sign a contract with either network...

you do get a discount when you sign to a new 24 month plan, but to get anywhere near the $299 voucher discount the plan cost is huge, $80 plus a month. Less expensive contracts the discount for 24 months will get you $149 discount off the top of my head.

sbiddle: I didn't see anybody bashing Telecom for offering a free mobile if you traded in your VF phone.

Can you please elaborate on that? Unless your talking about winbacks, I haven't heard about this?

There is plenty of competition now - people just need to look beyond Telecom and Vodafone.

Look at Compass for example - a Vodafone MVNO who offer you 600 mins anytime calls for $170 per month with no contract. This is ~$55 cheaper than what VF or Telecom can offer and has no term contract.

2degrees simply won't be able to undercut that 25c per min calling rate that Compass offer while they're having to pay interconnect fees.

true, but I am not only interested in calling rates, more of the data plan/bb plan in particular, so .. both are much of a muchness, XT offers lower price but have to combine the minutes I use with Vodafone, still work out the same value more/less 100/mth so why bother switching .. need more carrot sorry!

To get that voucher redeemed through Vodafone would probably be a very expensive disconnection penalty at the Telecom CDMA end.
The $299 vouchers were recent CDMA contract sign-ons and the $149's were those already contracted. and $149 is a paltry discount towards a new phone if your contract just happened to end in the last few months

Telecom's disconnection penalties are steep, $500-$350 on even just a tier two (approx $30 plan)

I haven't read Vodafone's terms and conditions but I think they will probably try to get partners and friends - they surely can't ask someone to pay out of a newly resigned contract just to get $299 discount on a handset - it would cost more than that to get out of a contract...

This is the main condition: "Offer only available to new to Vodafone customers in possession of a Telecom XT Network phone discount voucher who sign up to a 24 month Talker or Texter plan between 3 and 10 June 2009."

It doesn't say you have to be THE customer who got the voucher issued to by Telecom. It could be that I have a voucher and give it to someone I know, and this person signs up with Vodafone...

I just put in a fake XT number on Vodafone's website and suddenly I can get the $299 discount? Obviously not set up properly.

It doesn't tell me that I have to port my number.

Quite a few people (including myself) never got offered or given a physical voucher and was simply advised of the discount if I were to re-sign.

Cool, so voucher or no voucher, Vodafone applies the $299. Good, this is what competition does:)

riahon: The associated contract with the vouchers will make for interestng disucssions with vodafone.

What does it say?

I assume you're meaning the fact to get a voucher that you had to sign a new contract anyway therefore there would be very few people who would actually make a move since they're still locked to Telecom?

Most people who got vouchers will be locked into contracts am I right?
