There is apparently a Nokia technician flying out here to investigate the powering off fault.

Telecom have recommended that affected phones be sent to MFR (even though there is no fix!!!!).

About the Nokia 6255. I will be watching this thread closely as I'll be interested in when the fix is up and running.
Please keep posting as there'll be some happy people around as soon as the fix is up and running.
Hope Telecom and MFR can get this sorted ASAP and stop keeping the public in the dark.
Some one buy the Nokia tech some coffee pills.

lol yeah - he will need them.
wow - another day gone by, and no official notice of any resolution (or being closer to one).

I usually encounter pretty high standards with the people I deal with, but this has been handled quite badly. I know plenty of people "at the coalface" (with Telecom directly, not dealers) who are very embarrassed about all this.

Anyone got the fastforward or rewind working?
the manual says that the left and right buttons do this - but it doesn't.

most annoying - I get 15 minutes through a podcast, then an sms arrives and the mediaplayer starts from the beginning again.

also - anyone having trouble using speed dials (e.g. press and hold 3)

sometimes it speed dials, sometimes it just repeats the digit 3 ???

i thought it might be a two stage pressure sensitive key, but i cant replicate it on all keys

It's nice to see that the Nokia 6255 was thoroughly tested before it's Telecom launch date. Hope those techs don't branch out into the vehicle market.

Great comment Oggie, agree completely. What with the calls going to cell sec problems on all the current model Sanyos and the Nokia that powers off and the A680 which has a nasty habit of losing all its NAM information there is not much left to choose from...maybe they need to enlist the help of some Geekzone members to field test new models before release and give a honest opinion.

MFR001, my experience of MFR is you should probably concertrate on your own problems before you worry about Telecoms / Vodoafones. Something about glass houses...

Ha ha, you take it for granted from my nickname that I work for MFR!! I wouldnt work for them if they doubled my wages. I wont publish my opinions on them here, but do concur with yours hey certainly do have some things to sort out as well

I actually think this is not a bad idea... There are some setup to go though though - NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreement), personal identification, formal testing procedure, etc. Of course this is more like a software trial than a mobile phone trial really.

Then there is the bug reporting, follow up, reproducing problems, etc. Things can get quite big. I'd like to see something like this, but I don't think it is practical. I mean, perhaps not an open testing, but maybe Telecom and others could contact some members in private and ask for their participation.

I do know that phones are field tested with selected people for months at a time (Im pretty sure around 6 months in -some- cases) before release here.

I am also 84.9% positive that these people are carefully selected to include tech-heads/geeks and regular people too.

Also, 12% of all statistics are made up.

I believe they do some sort of consumer testing as when phone is released there are note on different quirks etc noticed by testers. But I dont know how they go about it. It would be great if they nailed some of these annoying little faults before they were released though. But then we may be waiting forever for new models...already seems to take ages. Waiting with breath held for new Hyundai with 1.3 Mp camera which is due soon...correct me if I am worng might be a Samsung.

I think it's hard enough for Telecom to get handsets for Telecom before they are released, with out adding to the list...

I totally agree it would be a good idea, but doubt very much it would be possible in practise!

MFR001, my apologies for the assumption!
