taniwha: how about a device in a vehicle reports back the location, speed, and other data back to your home PC, then you know where the teenager is ...No need to dream. The bandwidth required for this kind of appliction is already here - even GPRS or CDMA 1xRTT will do. I had first hand experience with an application that does exactly this.

With a Pocket PC Phone Edition, and an external mic threaded up and hanging off your hat/collar/whatever this is probably very possibly right now with not a lot of effort...
