I'm further confused by this page:

Mobile Broadband roaming is available in Australia's capital cities and selected regional centres, delivering speeds up to 2.4Mbps with average speeds of 300-600 kbps*.......

So, the webpage says it works, but everyone i know who has tried (2 people) say it doesn't.

So if your take your Telecom device to australia you get faster data speeds than you do here?

Did the phone work at all? Did they update the RIL?

To do this you have to call *22800 during business hours if you have a postpaid account. This will update the RIL. Follow these instructions.

You can also call 0800 492 120.

Yes - handset was updated successfully by ringing *22800
Voice and SMS worked both ways.
but no wap, and no MMS.

i will ring that 0800 number and see what i learn.

I think you meant PRL - Preferred Roaming List.

Yes, if you ring the *22800 number and work your way through the prompts you should be able to update it before you leave.

page 8 of the inflight air-NZ magazine shows Fast Eddie and his telecom phone standing in front of the sydney opera house, and checking his email, surfing the web, and all the other stuff he does back home....

That sure got my hopes up.

so i stood in front of the Sydney opera house, with my telecom nokia 6255, tried to start my wap browser, tried to start a data session fron the bluetooth pda, and i tired to send an MMS...

none of this works....

so, not only is it broken, telecom is advertisting that it works??? :-(

or have i misunderstood something?

Are you sure your handset was setup correct. I know on Voda no settings need to be changed I was walking on the great wall in China and sending PXT back to NZ and checking my email while waiting on the tour bus.

I think the whole roaming is data, as in Internet connection, not services as in WAP, MMS, etc. I think it would work if you tried to connect to a pop3 or web server.

That what i was trying from the pda to the phone... but couldn't even connect to #777. No data to the javamidlets in the phone either.

There's something i was missing? settings?
