hey kids,

the format is aac+... hence the better compression rates... I've been listen to content from this store for a while and have no complaints... I know the details of the file sizes, and the 900 on a 1GB card was not a guess :-)

price points are tricky things, as anyone who's dealt with the big 4 recording distribution companies (and Pfizer) will know...

I still buy vinyl, and very occasionally cd's, I listen to the radio, and I'll be downloading tunes to my 9000 now too... different mediums for different situations...

I'm interested in anyone's views on the usability of the store... the goods the not so goods... any one got any feedback??

andyb: I have a 5600, which also has a 1GB SD card, the promo material states that 240 songs can be stored on the card.
I currently have 217, which has used 247008KB of the memory or a little over 33%, so you could get at least 650 odd on to the card.
I have saved the as AAC format using itunes from MP3's which provides smaller files and little loss in quality.

Are you serious? Converting directly from MP3 to AAC (or between any two compression protocols for that matter) would cause enormous signal loss.

AAC does produce good results when encoded from uncompressed source, though. I find that 256kbps AACs are nearly impossible to distinguish from CD quality, while 128kbps is sufficient for my needs. For the last 2.5 years, I've been in the process of phasing MP3 files out of my music collection in favour of AAC, and I now have very few MP3s left.

taniwha: That whole number of songs thing is silly.
even non-techies know that "songs" come in different lengths, don't they?

and what if you want to listen to something that doesn't have vocals?

C'mon... Every company showing off a new mp3 player or service always put out "it can store up to [x] songs". It's a reference number, not a limit.

Guys, take this opportunity to give some feedback on the store! It's not every time you can voice concerns on a privileged channel.

I remember when Vodafone launched the 3G service, a lot of people here complained about Vodafone's music store being difficult to browse, etc. So I known people here are interested in this kind of stuff.

You can check the Telecom service, download some free songs (hey Telecom, what about some more free songs for people here to "test" the service even more?) if you have a Telecom mobile and then post your thoughts.

i like the store. i like the customer experience. i like the interface.
just don't like the content - but i have very oddball music tastes.

user feedback is really hard to get (often we only hear about problems you understand). I myself have very "odd ball" tastes... though the only track I haven't been able to find that I've wanted is "Emergency Broadcast Control System" by Emergency Broadcast Network...

I thought it was for EVDO handsets only so that prevents the 5600 from being a part of it. Although if the song sizes are around 1-2mb as indicated then a patient user and a 1x handset shouldnt be a problem if it is programmed in such a manner

I played with one yesterday, very easy to use and EVDO makes the download fast as.

Noticed in 1x the download wasn't bad either.

Telecom have a big advantage over voda here has all of there T3g branded handsets and the first EVDO and future EvDO handsets work everywhere in CDMA coverage and all services are available everywhere and 1xrtt isn't that slow, remember EVDO current version has a upload of 156Kbps anyway.

Telecom should be captilizing on this right now, as usaul they ar'nt promoting this well. I know they don't have video calling and this is the first music download handset with EVDO but really who cares if you have all the mod cones and can only use the phone in a city or major town (the coverage is pretty limited there as well with WCDMA)

I like the 9000 and i think i might get one!

The One advantage i see in the service is its like 4.95 or something to download a ringtone and instead you can download a full length song and use it as your ring tone.

beehappy, the service will only work on the 9000 right now- it's pretty much an EV-DO service (also the 5600 doesn't have the ability to load that type of application)

Cheapskatenz, we're working on lots of things like that! The cool thing about the music store is we can update it very easily! so when new technologies come online we can provide it to anyone with a 9000!!

Very OT - I just got a pair of mini Bluetooth stereo headsets and I am using it with my i-mate Jasjar (should work in stereo with the TNZ Apache when it gets the AKU2).

Ahem...how do you propose that I connect my phone to my computer without bluetooth, and without forking out big money and fluffing around with software in order to use a data cable?

I doubt that many people would agree with you that bluetooth is dead or dying, especially considering that pretty much all mid to high end GSM phones have it.

I thought Ericsson stopped development on Bluetooth 2 years ago? I seriously have no interest in Bluetooth and I never use it.

I might upgrade my ZX81 after Christmas. I am thinking of adding a 16K expansion pack.
