As stated by Paul... I stand by my information. I got this from both Telecom and Vodafone last year. The handset manual is wrong and does not apply to New Zealand.

I can see how XT mobiles can fail over to Vodafone or 2D but as most Voda and 2D handsets don't have any 3G on the 850 band and most likely no 3G at all how do they fail over to XT??

XT mobiles support GSM and also 2100mhz WCDMA.

If you have a mobile on 2 Degrees that supports 850mhz/2100mhz WCDMA, then the mobile may use XT if its unable to use 2 Degrees or Vodafones network.

XT mobiles support GSM and also 2100mhz WCDMA.

If you have a mobile on 2 Degrees that supports 850mhz/2100mhz WCDMA, then the mobile may use XT if its unable to use 2 Degrees or Vodafones network.

While all XT mobiles support GSM very few Vodafone or 2D sold fones support XT frequencies unless you get a 3G set that does 2100 and there not too common with the plebs out there..

Another reason why I hate the media in this country. The NZ Herald's opening paragraph:

"Telecom's XT network grew too big too quickly, an independent review into the failed network has found."

Since when did it become a failed network? Something that has failed implies it is no longer operational.

Overall the article conveys a very negative tone, but why, what's the point of doing that? Why can't they just report the facts, or at least attempt to provide some balance by indicating what Telecom has done since the outages? (That's a rhetorical question really - poor journalism is a whole other topic!)
