RustyGonad: $2 a GB is awesome, under Bigtime I got to (and still get at the moment) a fixed bill.

Let say I do 200 GB - under Bigtime it cost $79... This is a bit of gaming, and lots of HD Youtube, and few movies, and maybe a couple of Linux training videos, nothing too hard strenuous on Bigtime. Certainly nowhere near the 1000 GB + some where/are doing.

On the Pro Plan, it only costs $79 for the first 40 GB, and then only $2 a GB for the next 160 GB, which is only $320 bucks. So instead of paying a huge $79, I get a massive saving by paying $400 bucks for the same thing.

This is huge - go $2 a GB. I'm wrapped... I don't need a new plan... Just like the OP said, this will work out just great...

lol i doubt that you had any fun playing online with the big time slow speeds, even youtube loaded slow.

the speed at my place was just unbearable some days

yes it would suck if you downloaded 200gb a month, but dam maby you should cut some of  that down (dont watch hd youtube, whats the point lol)

Ahh - I knew I missed something - Stop using the interweb - thats it... thats the solution...  Bigtime is always slow, thats why those guys only got to 1 TB a month...

I'll sell the HD TV now and head back to the good old CRT and dial up...

Believe me it'd be nice not to have to use 200 GB - but it'd also be nice if TVNZ could broadcast their shows in HD, along with DD, so that I didn't have to download so many Linux training videos.

It'd also be nice if XBox demos were 4 MB instead of 1 GB, it'd also be nice if online purchasing went away so that I didn't have to buy any downloadable games.  After all its much more convenient to head down to Dick Smith.

At the same time it'd also be nice if the world went back to VHS tapes, so that I didn't have to download any movies (from XBox Video service of course)...

It'd be nice to watch this years Top Gear within 6 months of it coming out as well, and maybe even in HD...

But instead we are all stuck with this changing world - which you won't get too see much of @ $2 a gig.

Never mind - you might figure all this out in a couple of years time...

haha nice poem mate, well at the end of the day $2 a gb is a whole lot better than $20 a gb

Yea - well some people think that Kopi Luwak Coffee is a bargain as well.   Many others know that you've been able to get monkey crap flavoured coffee from Starbucks for years now...

Unfortunately though, your just never gonna get it...

Honestly I never really found the Bigtime plan slow, I was able to do everything I wanted without much issue, my biggest issue was the unstable connection and latency spikes.

But none the less I decided to bite the bullet and have changed to the Pro Plan, speeds are very similar but to be honest the unstable connection is still there, so no point in blaming the Bigtime plan for that one, latency seems more stable, So hopefully that is fixed.

Also on another note, I honestly can't see any new plans being released, maybe just a small rework of the existing ones. The $2 per GB is a vast improvement, but yes we need a date!

Sounds like a DSL connection issue, have you looked into this.

RustyGonad, you might have to think about the importance of what you are actually downloading and save yourself $320..

I find it hard to believe you are pulling down 200GB per month every month.

You like everyone else on BigTime will have to change your behaviour for the benifit of all :)

How is that hard to believe? There are many of us that have usage much along the same lines.

Yeah i have to agree personally our household uses between !00 (at a bare minimum) to 200 gig every month. Not on Big Time though. We just have Telstraclear and a Worldexchange connection into the house. This is gonna change soon though and will go down just the Worldexchange account from August onwards.

Cost for my WorldExchange each month is about $80 - $90 for approx 80 - 90 gig.

Yes, Two Tech callouts, Changed ports @ exchange etc etc etc etc, still there. in the end Telecom suggested replacing the line into the house, but landlord has refused to give permission.

I've spent about NZD$80 on steam games this month. If I brought those same games in a bricks & mortar store it would probably have been more like NZD$300-400 and there is no way in hell they would have been purchased.

The problem is at $2 a gb, it would have cost me about the same as retail. Again, never going to happen.

The demise of bigtime is actually going to drastically increase my personal piracy rate, because I will no longer be able to obtain games at a reasonable price, I will go back to copying stuff at lans, and from colleagues etc, and only paying for content occasionally if I really like it, rather than giving stuff a chance if its cheap.

I pretty much never paid for software.
I didnt pay for software on my XT or my C64, or any platform after those :-)
I've spent more on Steam in the last year , than I have paid for software in total over the previous 20+ years.

Tend to agree, Bigtime made purchasing software and games online more realistic and affordable.

Didnt.

Telecoms 'value' 1gb data cap plan ran out fast in house of 5 and lots of complaining , yelling at each other and lag followed.

2 comps dont like to share 64kbps.

Even for the simple tasks.
