mattk: I still believe this is the most cost effective option if you've got a mate (or 6) who you can go in with:

http://www.cutmysim.com/

~$42NZD including freight.

Deal extreme has them for 20 USD.

Brilliant! they must have added them in the last day or so, I looked for a DX link first ;-) I'm ordering one as soon as the ipad pricing is announced.

freitasm: Just received:

Micro-SIMs will be the same price as Telecom New Zealand standard SIMs:

Prepaid: $29.95
Postpaid: $19.95

Telecom Newmarket didn't get the memo, I tried to get a XT SIM on postpay and they still wanted $30 for it. Crazy times!!! I don't get the mentality of this, I spend around $500 with them and wanted to add another $50/month connection. Oh well.

I couldn't wait, so I hacked a v1 Telecom SIM down to MicroSIM size and jammed it in my iPad. w00t

Well done!

Makes me want to walk into parallel importers and buy an ipad tonight =)

Anywhere cheaper than PI?

I got a 32GB/3G iPad for $1450, thought it was quite good a deal. Took it to the top of Rangitoto last Saturday and had a look at the terrain mapping in google to figure out what islands were which. Pretty cool toy.

Response from 2degrees re microSIMs

Thank you for your email regarding micro SIM cards.

Please accept my sincere apologies for this delayed response.

We are not offering micro SIM cards just yet but we know that there are new and exciting phones coming out that will be using micro SIM technology.

I do not recommend modifying your SIM card because if it was cut down to an incorrect shape, you could short circuit the SIM card.

However, we certainly want to keep up to date with the latest technology and we've successfully tested Micro SIMs on our network. We will be making them available to our customers soon.

Please keep an eye on our website on http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz and follow us on Facebook on http://www.facebook.com/2degreesmobile to stay up to date with our latest products and promotions.

If you have any further questions please feel free to call us free on 200 from your 2degrees phone or 0800 022 022 from any other number. Just press 0 to speak to a real person.
