eXDee: Personally i'm on prepaid with $30 for 500mb then $12 for 2500 texts. I dont make calls from my cell phone. If i did i'd use VoIP anyway.
It works out at a $40 topup gives $50 credit, then the $8 of extra credit i could use on a little bit of calling, checking voicemail etc.

I too found that plans were limiting for what i wanted from them, prepaid addons worked out much more flexible. I'd make calls if it weren't so expensive.

sorry just to be clear my cheerleader comments were directed at SteveON. How do you expect me to compare 2 Degrees offering base on pure speculation??

exdee I certainly see where XT prepay helps you and others needing more than 240/250Mb of data. But I hav heard that most users don't even use 100Mb? Not sure how true this is but every time I have raised it here the majority seem ok with even 100Mb (!).

So my post is for the majority of us that use less than 240/250Mb per month. The iPhone/smart plans are certainly better than what I can find on XT based on this, especially after handset subsidy is considered.

I have no idea why this would be the. 2degrees customer will have 3G access outside their own network coverage by roaming on Vodafone.

Furthermore their CSRs are advising the information they currently can reveal says that 3G won't be available roaming on Vodafone (eg. in Dunedin). If that changes fine but at their currently data pack pricing it would still be cheaper on Vodafone. It is all in the subsidy and total cost of ownership.

The keyword here is "roaming".

And, please don't call people cheerleaders. From what I read SteveON did nothing but comment on prices. I will help you and reset the FUG so you can read it again. This is a warning.

Yes, this is true. I locked my sons 2Degrees phone to UMTS and could make calls in Invercargill fine

No, you won't find an official confirmation until they release commercial information on launch. But your retailer is wrong. That's all I will say.

So far in this thread, we have had confirmed pricing from Telecom XT, current (actual) pricing from Vodafone (which could conceivably go up, but I wonder why it would), and a suggestion that I should consider 2degrees pricing, even though this pricing is not confirmed, nor is the network rollout confirmed, nor is any roaming agreement in Dunedin is confirmed.

Honestly my mistake and breach of the FUG was more to do with even responding to the pure speculation.

If I had added 2degrees into the comparison, I would have been fried for not knowing what I was talking about. By leaving them out, I'm again being fried.

Feel free to jump in but once again this is PURE SPECULATION until the network is actually formally announced and launched.

I get it! We may be roaming on Vodafone 3G. I knew that was a possibility from the start. But don't expect me to write an article or make a reasoned analysis based on speculation.

Interesting thread - I had no idea 2degrees had 3G roaming on Vodafone, I thought it was only 3G on their network, 2G everywhere else.

Telecom have today just annouced new data plans!

Telecom’s XT Mobile Network offers Apple iPhone users 3G services and speeds across the country along with competitive prices on mobile data plans.

From tomorrow, Telecom is offering Smartphone users the opportunity to double their data for the next 3 months when they sign up to our new 500 megabyte Smartphone Extra.

This means customers can add 1GB of data and 2500 text messages for $38 per month to any prepaid or postpaid voice plan on XT until the end of September.

Also, from 1 August for as little as $6, lower-level data users can now get a 50MB Data Extra, giving customers approximately five thousand Facebook page views per month*.

Telecom Head of Marketing Management, Paul Taylor says, “Our XT network offers customers a great mobile data experience and we have added new data plans to our already competitive prices so Smartphone users can make the most of it.”

Last Friday, Telecom confirmed that for $29.95 per month, XT customers can get 500MB worth of data or for $18 per month customers can get a total of 240MB on both prepaid or an open term postpaid plan. Telecom also offers a 2GB and 4GB data plan for avid data consumers.

Telecom stores are offering micro-SIM cards to XT customers to make it easier for them to use the latest Smartphone and notebook devices.

The 500MB Smartphone Extra offer is valid until 30 September.

*The data quantity example is an estimate only based on billed activity for internet use browsing m.facebook.com on a mobile phone. Actual data amounts transferred will vary.

'for the next three months' should be the end of October (since it is the end of July now).

i.e. 28th August = 1 month
28th September = 2 months
28th October = 3 months.
