brad05:New Zealand has much much bigger problems than broadband speed.

There is another thread for this, it's called Off Topic. I acknowledged in my first post in this thread that:

I am also acutely aware that there are many other problems that are far more significant than Broadband Internet in this country, however, that's another discussion, for another day.

But this thread ain't about those other issues.

How about you at least attempt to keep your comments on topic. Geekzone is a discussion forum, about technology & technological advancements, this is very much a worthy discussion, if you don't like it, then don't read it.

This is again sensationalist dribble - Telecom missed the wholesale target by 23% which is hardly falling 'well short of the wholesale component of the pledge' as the article states.

Obviously your interpretation of "falling well short" is completely different to other peoples then. Nearly 23.5% is most definately well short of a "Self Imposed Target set by Telecom NZ".

Maybe Telecom shouldn't make promises they can't keep, it's their own fault & no one elses that they failed to meet their own targets, knowing that the government might take further regulatory action against them.

To use you own stats and info against you.......

"As at 31 of December 2005, Telecom has reported a total of 279,123 residential broadband connections comprising 215,628 retail connections and 63,495 wholesale connections. This represents 111.6 percent of the aggregate target and 76.5 percent of the wholesale target."

This from the comcom website you linked to. It says that Telecom well exceeded their total tartget. by 11.6% infact. That the wholesale target wasnt quite met is no fault of Telecom. They cannot force other companies to buy from them. So doesnt your argument fall short just a little there?

What it does say is that Telecoms competitors were unable to add new customers. The fault being theirs not Telecoms

I disagree, he often resorts to silly name calling & antagonistic behaviour because he gets fustrated when I make a stand against his beloved Telecom.

This is not an exam, it's self imposed target set by Telecom, of which they failed to meet. You tell me to leave the forums & resort to immature name calling, I don't stoop to those levels myself, that's for the playground.
