doozy: I personally think this is a great plan (of course I would), also includes options for changing the data side of the plan ...

40GB $105 (Auckland, Wgtn, Chch) / $115 (Rest of NZ)
60GB $125 (Auckland, Wgtn, Chch) / $135 (Rest of NZ)
80GB $145 (Auckland, Wgtn, Chch) / $155 (Rest of NZ)

it isn't publicly available yet but it will be very soon

Those are decent upgrades for people who are using more data and less landline these days (which is pretty much everyone apart from teh older people heh).

Any chance Telecom will be going a step further and offering something to compete with Vodafone Naked? or is creating a plan without a landline based on naked adsl still a hanging offence at Telecom (even if it required XT mobile account)?

Comparing to the $118 for 50GB on nDSL and ~$20/mth for VoIP I currently pay, the new Telecom prices look really good!

Pity I love the features available on VoIP so much more than POTS...

kyhwana2: Why is it cheaper in Auckland/wgtn and chch?

It is my understanding that this is because these areas TelstraClear have their cable network in these areas and for Telecom to remain competitive in these areas they drop the price.

TelstraClear does not have cable in the other areas so no need to drop the price.

That being said, it is my understanding providing these services to customer in rural areas is more expensive on a per user basis.

If someone knows better please update me :)

If that is a future plan then I would be very, very, very, very happy. 80GB is more than sufficient for me - even when I had a flat rate plan I was lucky to be hitting 80GB in many cases. Hopefully if once a year they bump up the data allowance by around 10-20GB then I would be a happy lad :D

Well that's certainly nothing to go wow at really it wouldn't even get close to making me think about changing to Telecom. My last bill was $140.00 I used 115gig for month of October. This includes all my phone services (inclusive of toll calls) if you wanted to add mobile phone on top would only increase by about $15.00(but don't use my cell for much hehe).

I do have to say though they are not that bad with only a $20 difference between each 20gig usage range.

I must admit I'm not totally across how this is being marketed and therefore who is in/out as far as auto-upgrades go, but if you direct message me your account number I can check out if you will be

Doozy I know your intentions are obviously good however I would be a little worried (if i was a customer of Telecom) that a auto upgrade was to take place. Shouldn't customers get the choice not just auto upgraded. I know the cost is a minimal $3 but this wouldn't obviously be the case for all customers (and of course i know your not trying to help all customers hehe).

What I would like from my provider is the option to upgrade or not. If the overall goal for most companies is to be financially viable then a auto upgrade that provides a lot more for the customers $$$ is not something that should be in effect.

My ISP recently upgraded costs and new plans for all new customers but for existing ones the choice to upgrade was theirs. Just that not all people would want to be upgraded and from a financial viewpoint for the company it makes no sense to auto upgrade. Plus potentially the cost for low users may have dropped eg the 10gig plan may have actually lowered the cost due to the new plans coming out. Which for some users would be quite acceptable.

I am not trying to offend here either as I think what your looking to do here is go the extra for this customer and I wish more places had staff that go the extra mile. I am not so old that everything i do is old school but when it comes to a company where staff go the extra mile they get mega brownie points. (Eg In Lower Hutt we Have Ebgames and The Gamesman (both technically the same business as owned by the same company) within less than 5 mins walking distance. I do 90% of my custom at The Gamesman as I find the staff there a lot better to deal with and come across as (and are a lot) more approachable).

Good old fashioned customer service goes a long way for a lot of people still.

I wouldn't worry about the autoupgrades... Having worked on projects before where we considered auto-upgrading users, there's NO CHANCE you will be autoupgraded if it costs a cent more than you pay today.

In fact, auto-upgrading (also called force-migrating if you don't like Telecom :-) usually presents so many internal issues that even if the product gives more for less $$$, it's often still not used.

Cheers - N

I pretty much thought that would be the case based on the reasons as you say some customers would moan about a few extra dollars charge no matter how good the improvement hehe. Of course the simple costs the company more too aspect doesn't make good business sense either.

Cheers for the reply and like i said there is no offence meant in anything i said and sorry if i offended anyone by what i said (just a habit thing say sorry about everything i do generally in case i offend hehe)

Is it just me or are residential packages with landlines included becoming less and less popular with the likes of 2degrees offering good calling rates and the convenience of being mobile, I ditched the POTS landline in favour of VOIP last year and have never looked back. The 2 local calls I made most months didn't seem to justify the expense,

I'm not saying these types of packages are pointless, I know my parents still use their landline a lot more than their mobiles, but I think the landline as we know it is dying a slow death. Why don't we see naked DSL/Cable plans with attached VOIP options, if your going to loose a customer to a different VOIP provider why don't you offer it yourself?

I suspect "slow"is the operative word here. A vast amount of people probably have no clue what "VOIP" is.
