jfrance: Jumping ahead to 2013.... any news that Telecom will be rolling out a femtocell offering for XT any time soon?
Thanks.

old3eyes: The NZ Tech Podcast last week asked Chris Quin this question and basically no was the answer.. To use Femtocellls is admitting your network is not up to it was what I read from it..

Thanks for the info. Strange position for them to take since geographically there will always be cellular blackspots in NZ where broadband is available.
I have since heard from an inside source that there may also be some reliability issues with the integration/backhaul...
Cheers

The Back haul is over a xDSL connection I would say your inside source is trying to pull the wool over your eyes

And here I was thinking it was bean tins and string. Give it a rest mate! The reason I'm asking about XT femtocells is because if they did have one I'd then have coverage at my city office, rural home and everywhere in between. Something your opco could not provide with or without a femtocell because your opco has gaping holes in its coverage in my area. Sorry fella!
Anyhoo... courier will be turning up in a few days with magical package to make my blackspot disappear...

Which is weird given my Gen-i rep told me there was something coming soonish when I asked not so long ago.
Kyanar: To be honest, an actual solution to this would be welcome. Where I work, I have zero coverage unless I stand very close to the windows of the building on Telecom and 2degrees - but excellent coverage on Vodafone (which is potentially due to the fact that the closest Vodafone cellular site is ... er, the building I'm in). I once spoke to Telecom who initially seemed interested in trying to fix the poor reception, but once it got to engineering it was bounced back with a resounding "we don't care" (in pretty much those words).

Do you happen to work for a large American software company in Auckland that is rumoured to have shielded their building to protect their Wifi network and then complained loudly to Vodafone that their mobiles didn't work?
