Oh and thanks for clearing up that minor misconception, I didn't realize they did not "roam" within Auckland etc... Still, is an important detail.

If I post again after getting this phone it won't be to whine at telecom, it will just be an update to let others who might be considering the same options as myself know if it is working amazingly (or not!) for me :)

Thought I'd give a little more detail about my little test:

Sister is on 2Degrees and uses a Samsung Galaxy S (nice phone!).

So at Christmas dinner last night I popped my SIM card in.

TXTing worked instantly being sent between my brother's phone and my number, no delay I could detect even.

The Sumsung showed all full bars of reception.

This was done way out in Greenlane, which the map shows only has a mere scattering of towers compared to the CBD where I'll spend 95% of my time.

It's still far better (IMO) to use a phone designed to work on the right network - too bad if you have to travel down country or anything.
