42ms
14.03Mbps
.70Mbps

Also Speedtest.net gives the same.

No static IP. Can't see why that would matter?

Modem on auto DNS. Any DNS changes I made I did in the PC not the modems.

Tried Xtras (several), Open DNS and Googles.
IP on auto.

--------------------------

BTW got the Thompson modem this morning,.
I also got phoned by the first tech I spoke to at telecom last night.
He went off and did I don't know  - just looked at stuff or consulted, I think, maybe he did something?
and then was going to schedule a Chorus guy.

Meanwhile the net wasn't bad this morning. So I tried the game download again. Fail.

Plugged in the Thompson, went to Stumbleupon, same s***. Loading, failing to load etc.
Gave up on that.

Went to the game download again, and it paused or thought about it like it does at first, so I paused it and resumed it and oh look!!! I got it !!! The whole thing.

I jumped on youtube and watched some Indian Tech support clips to see if I could screw it up near the end of the download, no it kept on at 247kbps. And completed.

I have paused and resumed that game download before without success.

Plugged the ASUS back in, back to stumbleupon, haven't made it fail so far yet.

So, who at telecom did what?
Or is it just luck? This is the best results I've had since 8th November. Yesterday wasn't any good.
Today, so far, so good.

Well, the speedtest result indicates a fantastic fast connection - so any issues are likely to be at a higher layer...

I ask about static IP because at some times, customers with static IPs were migrated to caching systems on a different timeframe... Confirming you don't have one makes troubleshooting easier.

In NZ it's NEVER worth using a DNS other than that of your ISP. There's a lot of mis-information flying about, but the 3rd party DNS servers (like google etc) will always give worse performance unless there's a specific fault (and I know that NZ ISPs pay close attention to their DNS servers since they are so critical).

I don't know if anyone did anything specific but obviously your connection is capable (at times) of being quick.

Just make sure that's everything's set as close to standard as possible (DHCP, ISP assigned DNS servers etc) and see how that goes for a day or 2.

Cheers - N

Wasn't my idea to use any DNS servers - telecom asked me too.
Except Open DNS which I tried as an additional.

Anyway for some unknown reason it seems to be OK as of this morning.
So far.
Rang Telecom, they said there was no9thing new in the notes so who knows.
After 2 months I'm quite pleased whatever the cause.

Thanks for the helpful posts.
