yea they are most likely second hand, or refurbished models imported from overseas.
atleast you get a one month warranty. but their MLBF is probably 3 months

If the person knows how to, they can flash the generic firmwares onto the phone. I always do that once the warranty is up.

Assumign that there is one available for it, some of those LGs are AT%T only.

Oh true. Didnt think of that. Most of the phones I get are sold in nearly every country.

Trust me... I have a couple of AT&T handsets (Windows Mobile ones) and unless you know what you are doing it won't work. They lock down all the configuration, just entering the APNs don't make these handsets work.

Really, what's the advantage of buying an import 3G handsets that clearly will not have mobile access to the Internet.

That handset is a lemon.

The main reason is because here we are in 2011 and Telecom still hasn't got WP7 on offer to its XT Network customers. There is a reason why Vodafone has so many customers - Telecom seems to be oblivious to the idea that maybe customers want up to date technology.

PS. I don't get excited over phones running ancient versions of Android.

+1 It's nice that they have real quick speeds, but if you purchase through them there's not a lot going for them. I've tried using a 2100 device on XT, which was trying at times, but ended up getting a device from Telstra AU.

I have two AT&T fones and I put in the APNs for XT and 2D and they work fine for MMS, internet ..

That reason doesn't stack up. Buying a handset that handset won't even work 100% because it's locked down and users can't change the configuration is not a way out.

Yes, but AT&T sells a few dozen different models. Some might not be locked down, and in this specific case the seller says it won't work here - so why risk buying something like that?
