There will always be new services coming out. If you want to use them then you have to willing to pay for them. I regularly download tv episodes, none has been more than 350Mb and thats a one hour HDTV quality episode. I can safely download 10 or more a month, which is more than enought o keep me current with the US. My downloading would equal about 3-4Gb for TV episodes, no more than 250Mb for music. Maybe 500Mb for the odd movie trailer or video clip. That leaves a lot a month for surfing the net (90% of my web traffic is to geekzone.co.nz), a little bit of IM and theres still a lot left to use on whatever....whether its online gaming which i dont do very much of or decding to download a dvd or OS iso. When you think about it 10Gb is a lot

I have 20GB traffic allowance with my TelstraClear cable internet... and i don't break 3.5GB each month... and still lots to spare...

So you don't really need to worry about capped data, unless you are a horder or waste-downloader that download everything regardless if they are useful or not... which to me is a very stupid and inefficient way of using your traffic allowance. Smart downloader will have plenty of allowance.

Internet is my backyard...

Having said that... Singtel offers unlimited 24Mbps for SG$49 (or something like that)...

This month I used 8GB downloading Windows Vista beta builds, Microsoft Office beta builds, and I wouldn't mind if we had a movie download service to purchase movies to watch on a media centre setup or portable media centre...

But even so, I doub I would reach my current 80GB monthly allowance.

Theres at least 6 shows on in the states at any given time. I prefer to pick up the 700 meg high res rips with ac3 when available, add 350 more megs of seeding for the health of the swarm and thats about 1 and a bit gigs per episode.

Several downloads of music - I dont do lossy so its about 350 megs per album in .flac, once again, I seed about 50%, so thats 1/2 a gig per single disc album, more if its a multidisc or had the dynamics clipped out of it like most recent releases since they get less compression.

Then theres all the youtube and google video I (try to) watch, not much there, but its getting more and more frequent that theres a 10 min video in some awful low res flash crap on a webpage then text and pictures, and those have to add up, I have no idea how big they are.

Add voice traffic via voipcheap.com or (spit) skype to that and its easy to blow thru 10s of gigs a day. Even at $1 a gig, its more economical to drive across town and pick up episodes on dvd then to download from torrent. Faster too often.

When youtube etc start to offer non-sucky video and audio quality at a decent bitrate then I expect it to go up even more.

Perhaps some people dont use lots of traffic, but that doesnt mean that there is no need for it for other people.

Oh, just had to windows and office update a PC, that was close to 300 megs on one PC, so good thing im not on the cheap telecom plan or there goes my cap in an evening doing nothng.

I note that here and on other forums there is always a justification of sorts for high downloads by claiming that they download TV Series' often not avail in NZ.

Is downloading a TV Series legal? If so I might have a play - I agree with the reasoning to download o'seas TV series as NZ TV often has little to offer.

I am assuming your comment was some form of sarcasm? You are probably correct though.

My wife does a bit of email keeping in touch with friends and there is the odd web site she enjoys. I have friends still on dial-up who don't actually see the point of broadband. They use the internet a few times a week, generally TradeMe and ebay are top of the list.

Just because the government believes that everyone should have broadband it doesn't mean that everyone actually wants it or has a use for it.

agreed - of my family I am the only one with BB. The others have internet but would be lucky to use it 3 times a week. I believe that many other Kiwis feel the same, surely this must contribute to the perceived low uptake of BB. It wouldn't matter to my dad if it was unlimted data at full speed for $20 per month. He only pays $10 now on dial up and is happy with that.

I wonder if reports like that of the OECD should really analyse - Percentage of internet users that actually want BB service.

Lots of ISOs? Movies, music and TV shows? Who knows, the only reason i get near my 10gb cap is when i download a 3.5Gb Vista ISO or an Expression Web Designer Build.

Well I usually blow 60 GB a month, and what I spend my bandwidth on is between me and the tracker.
