Yeah, I inhaled sharply when I read that post about the Telecom phones. If the guy actually worked for Telecom (which I suspect he didn't, he may have just known someone who did that shot their mouth off) he would be in some serious trouble with his manager. Like all telcos, Telecom won't confirm phones until they're definitely going to be carried.

Depending how it's prices, could be a very nice entry level smartphone

I'm thinking of sticking my toe in the smart phone waters shortly and wondered whether anyone has got (or used) this phone yet? If so, is it any good? I see some reviews of the Sensation on GeekZone, but can't find any comments on the Wildfire S. I googled some overseas reviews, and these are usually summed up as: great phone, but a bit low-spec'ed, so a bit slow running some apps.

The problem is that my budget only goes about as far as this, so if this isn't much good, what's a better choice (to use on the XT network) around this price point? I tried using the comparison function on the Telecom website but you can't trust it (e.g. it says this phone has a QWERTY keyboard, which I'm pretty sure it doesn't). If anyone is in a position to make a recommendation I:
- use my phones mostly for voice calls and texts,
- do a reasonable amount of web browsing,
- very occasionally check my home email,
- must have a decent music player on board, and
- think taking photos and watching videos on my phone is pretty unimportant.

Not having had a smart phone before I don't have any idea what my app usage might be - I don't play many games on my phones, but I’d download something I found useful, e.g. if going to the UK on holiday I'd download a London train timetable app.
