I had a treo 600 which similarly had no MMS capabilities available, ended up returning it after much dicking around by there CSRs and store staff. Telling me that I needed a software update and to send it off, send it off, no software updates available etc...

Not sure what you're trying to say here really. Are you arguing that all other MMS users of Telecom are really using email behind-the-scenes? Or are these other phones secretly tapping into Vodafone for their MMS capabilities?

No, im saying that Telecom says photo messaging on the Treo + Apache (and other PDAs) is via email, not MMS. I dont know how that could be any clearer from either TNZ or myself.

I'm not sure where you've read that I'm that unhappy with the phone... I *am* unhappy with Telecom tho. I think they could do better.

Whoa there you extatic Windows Mobile user... :) Take a deep breath - of course this is all just my opinion. The post was titled BEWARE TREO USERS as you might recall. Nothing about the sucky Windows stuff at all! It's all just a preference. But I am sorry to hear about your thumbs.

Nothing? You said this "The palm interface is far more useable than Windows Mobile (the "mobile" outlook app is horrible!)" and "keep in mind that this is still the best PDA/cell combination out there." - and all I did was point out that that was not the case for me.

Im not an overly ecstatic Windows Mobile user, I paid far more for the Apache ($300) than I could have for the Palm ($0), mainly just to get WiFi and a keyboard I can use. Palm Treo 650 is clearly VERY good value for money for most people, and much more cost effective than an Apache. In my opinion the Apache is better, but not on a dollar for dollar basis.

Im struggling to see what you actually want, other than asking people to phone telecom and complain about misleading their customers (over something you dont understand, seeing as the Treo does in fact, do photo messaging).

Telecoms Photo Messaging is the act of sending a photo using one its photo messaging capable devices, some of TNZs devices use MMS, and some use email...

Telecom list the treo 650 as a picture messaging phone, they did with the 600 when I had it.

What does it cost?

To send a Photo Message from your mobile or from the Online Gallery costs per photo, per recipient:

$0.20 cents to a Telecom mobile or email address
$0.50 to an 021 or 029 mobile

It's free to receive a Photo Message.

I cant see how that applies to using email vs MMS - firstly, theres no email account provided with an 027 connection, and the data for receiving the picture means that its not free to recieve. In addition I cant email a picture to another phone unless they also have an email account etc.

The same page also says about adding sounds and video, something that only MMS lets you do, not emailing a jpeg.

So yes, telecom have a lot to answer for when they sell a picture messaging phone that only emails images.

As far as recieving goes, you recieve them via text, which is still free to recieve on treo or apache (just like its free to recieve on, say, a 2280 - you still have to go find an internet connection to view the pic...).

Thats the first time I have noticed that wording, and I guess TNZ will notice it through this thread and fix it up. It seems to me that TNZ has probably not done this on purpose.

Again, if you were sold something on the basis that it would perform a function (and for a given price), the CGA kicks in...

Mmmm, aren't the Apache/Harrier/Treo all DATA devices with basic phone (read the ability to SPEAK TO and HEAR people who are not standing next to you) capabilities??? They are not phones with data capabilities.

Also, if you only wanted to send picture messages, don't you think the Treo was a bit of a clumsy choice?

So this is interesting... Palm now says that this is a known issue that is in some way related to the radio tower configuration, and that Telecom has been aware of this for a while and was supposed to fix it. Now that I think about it, it does seem like there are places the phone never resets itself and others it resets in rather frequently. I've contacted Telecom AGAIN and I'm waiting for news.
I will not be a happy camper if they have been selling this device while knowing about the issue.

The Telecom Web page is indeed updated - it no longer mentions mms. Not that I'm picky, but it does still talk about "voice memo" and "predictive txt" tho - neither of which are available.

Oh, and speaking of Palm - I asked their support to provide a bit more info about this issue, and received, much to my amusement, a link to this very thread a "more in-depth information" about the issue. Really. From Palm.

I guess the good news is that they DO INDEED READ THE SUPPORT forums! Yay!

It isn't a "Radio Tower" issue at all, but it is an issue Telecom has known before launch, and no there more than likely isn;t a fix coming for it as the resources will be more focused on the four new Treo's now. And no I can't go into any more depth than that.
