Hence as I said, it is essentially Telecom's offer of Vodafone's You Choose and only much simpler.

And I like said above in my earlier post, I am well weaved with Vodafone as my family and extended family are on GSM network, make sense for me to keep on GSM network for local and international usage/roaming.

But this plan will certainly be useful for those new mobile users or those who want an easier plan.

nzbnw:
So that would imply that if a customer was to sign up on an open term Mytime Go 100 plan, then they could transfer to Flexi Mytime outside of the 1st month of connection? And hence have an open term connection, or is it only aviable to customers within contract?

I will of course find it all out, but I'm not back at work for a few days =)

Well I have answered by own question Smile.

1) Telecom Flexi is on available on 24 or 36* month terms
2) Existing 027 postpaid users still in contract must pay any fee's as per the TMSA to transfer to Flexi and remain on Flexi for the duration (of the remainder) of their contract.
3) Open term customers must commit to a new 24 month term.

*Option only on Flexi Anytime

I find Telecom's new offering both pleasing and disappointing. Pleasing, because they have shown some innovation in their response to Vodafone's You Choose plans, rather than resorting to the practise of simply mimicking the competition as both telcos have tended to do in the past.

What I find disappointing is that Telecom have failed to offer an open term option, which is the biggest fault of the You Choose plans in my view.

I agree, hopefully it will only be a matter of time, althrough in saying that next to no tier 3 (Flexi Anytime) customers sign up on an open term basis, althrough this is common on tier 1 and 2 (Flexi Mytime) plans.

I don't necessary think being in a 12/24 months term is a bad thing. Beside if you are sticking with a mobile network provider, you will stick with it for a good length, and seeing that, you are already on Vodafone for over 6 months. If you have signed up on You Choose in the initial offer, you would have spent 1/4 of the time on term already. Now that they have 12 months term, you would definitely stay for further 12 months on Vodafone, so what's the complain here?

Only problem i'd see for terms contract is 36 months... that's too long. 24 is alright if you know you are not going anywhere with other mobile network provider. 12 is just right to get good balance of cheap plan and good phone subsidy.

oh also, seeing that mobile phone regulation may be on its way, and with many more telco or 3rd party players entering mobile network service, all telco would want to lock their customers in to their customer base as much and as long as possible.

I don't think it's safe to assume that you would stick with a particular phone company for a year or two before considering the alternatives. If a competitor suddenly comes up with a deal that suits your needs better and promises to save you a significant amount of money, then why wouldn't you switch?

Personally, I would be willing to sign a 12 month contract if I were really pushed to do so, but 24 or 36 months would be unacceptable to me.

For me, I found that Vodafones you choose offered the best value for money based on my usage. On IRC last night, we had calculated similar figures to what sbiddle posted. I voice my concern with the trend of telcos wanting to lock consumers into term contracts. I could understand for users seeking handset discounts, but for customers who are bringing their own handsets and being offered nothing in return is disappointing. What I find disappointing is the appearance of the logic along the lines of 'contracts are not bad unless you have something to hide', users should always have the option of openterm contracts even if it means paying more. Currently as it stands if you want On account, you have either Motormouth (open term) or You Choose. On Telcom its a little bit better with some postpaid options. So back on topic... I think flexi is a bit of a step forward (minus any forced contract of course) but it doesn't suit all users.

This is my main gripe with You Choose. Despite objecting to term contracts I would be better off moving to You Choose and would sign a 12 month contract despite not disagreeing with the whole concept. It annoys me that if you are buy a 3G phone at the time you sign the contract you get money off a phone ($120 in the case on a 12 month You Choose 120) as well as 25% extra base airtime for the 12 months which is another 30 mins of airtime. Because I was a particularly stupid customer and actually purchased a 3G phone at the retail price and want to sign up then all I would get would be another 10 minutes per month. Hardly logical or fair if you ask me..

I jumped for joy (literally) when I discovered what these were today (been a bit busy)

Gone is that 49c ripoff rate once you use your free minutes and having to use them all, I much, much prefer this system.

10c off peak is just fantastic!

This is what "you choose should have been! eat this Vodafone!  :-P

It has been confirmed to me today by a dealer talking to Mobile Dealer Support that an existing contract customer can move, as per normal plan change rules.

I have created a very basic plan calculator...

http://ealhughes.googlepages.com/FLEXI-CALC.xls

This will show you costs on Flexi vs. prepaid mates rates and anytime (Go Onebill is same rates as Prepaid), and also Mytime Go 200, and the 28/28 business plan I am on.

Again, it proves prepaid / go onebill to be a good all rounder, but for my circumstances, Flexi will win out (though not by much).

If there is a demand and/or if i have time, I will produce a spreadsheet to calculate both Flexi Anytime AND Flexi Mytime, and all current popular TNZ plans (Mytimes,Anytimes,Transport,Construction, etc etc etc.)

tonyhughes,

I'd be keen to get a copy of the spreadsheet. I am attempting to create one of my own to use instore, but have limited knowledge and experience with excel.... I will send an email to you.....

Flexi is really only suitable for customers who have constantly changing minutes and do spend a minimum of $45 per month. Many people would still be far better off on You Choose than Flexi.

True,  but that is only the case if people on the You Choose plans guess their minutes correctly.... If they go over their minute allowance, can get very expensive very quickly....

I've always been a Vodafone supporter but I have to say good on Telecom for these new offerings, took them a while but they got there.

I don't liek You Choose, the terms are too long and the benefits are good if you pay a lot.

How could you congratulate Telecom for a plan that offers 24 or 36 month term contracts while criticising Vodafone for having terms that are too long when they offer 12 month term contracts?
