I really really really doubt that.

It's clear you know nobody with Telecom working on VoIP or have any idea of the extent of their infrastructure.

You forget that for 99% of people the medium in which their voice service is delivered means very little to them.

Sorry Steve, I suspect you think I was saying that "I really really really doubt that Telecom know anything about VoIP..."... In fact I was saying quite the opposite.

You are right, I don't know anyone personally who is working internally on VoIP.

However, common sense would suggest that a company who's talked about an IP backbone for a decade, and is as smart as Telecom clearly is, would have some plan under the wings.

Sorry if I left the impression that I was suggesting they don't have any VoIP clue in there. :)

ISP's need to be thinking in terms of ARPU and preparing to offer bundles of services consisting of: internet, voice, mobile, online backup, on demand media/tv/movies..

Agreed, but in my view they also need to be thinking in terms of having product selection as well.

I don't know how the UBF is going to work here, but in .au NBNCo are selling services on ONT ports and I can see people choosing a number of providers with low cost plans and then using a smarter router to consolidate the offering...

Router...
port 1 - TelstraClear - free TV3
port 2 - Snap - $2 GoogleYouTube
port 3 - slingshot - All you can eat
port 4 - Orcon - SkyThingO.
Port 5 - Connection to your network...

The router then figures out where to send the packets.
