chrisjunkie: Hi All,

About to head out to dinner so this will be quick. On Friday I noticed a huge amount of UDP traffic coming from 119.59.100.71... Blocked with an ACL but 3 days later I have had more than 3.5 million (yes, you read right, MILLION) packets dropped from that IP.

Rang Telecom and was told that there was nothing they could do - I think this is complete and utter bullcrap. It's counting towards our quota and I'm not happy.

What can I do Geekzoners! Anyone from Telecom who KNOWS that there is something that can be done and can help me out???

Cheers
Chris

Have you tried calling the Xtra Broadband support desk on 0800 22 55 98?

They should be able to change your static IP if you request it.  Black-holing the source IP is somewhat more difficult so I would just recommend asking for a new Static IP.

I believe Telecom are one of the few ISPs in NZ which have all their users behind firewalls of some sorts. Hopefully Tara is alluding to the fact.

Will be interesting to see what they do,

Only TCP Port 25 is blocked using a Router ACL rule (not firewall) to reduce inbound and outbound email spam bots which is still very common across the internet.  You can request to have port 25 opened if you plan to run your own mail server over your DSL connection and accept that if you run a open mail relay your DSL service may be shut down.

I've been informed that there are no firewalls between xtra customers and the internet only the Router ACL rule blocking port 25.

Did telecom put in place a Null route for yo in the end or just offer to swap your IP? Curious ...
