I've had a static IP with telecom since the beginning and haven't yet received such a letter... So I too wonder what the criteria is on their assumption its unused? This also doesn't make sense to me as they're giving residential users static IPs now as default aren't they? or has this stopped??
raytaylor: Well if telecom does happen to get desperate, I have a /22 they can buy off me, for a nice premium of course. My upstream doesnt seem to be able to get their upstream to get it going...so i have been doing carrier NAT for my customers since i started.

No no no not a hoarder Just unable to use it because my upstream cant get telstra clear to hurry up and accept the subnet to advertise.
I WANT to use them for my rapidly growing customer base who are currently being natted. But i have been waiting 3 months so far and am not having any luck.
"I have checked your account and you are currently not assigned a static IP to line 03 3394960"
and
"If you would like a static IP address for 03 3394960 please complete the form on the link below or simply reply to this email and I can assign one for you."
So I get back to them asking for confirmation to just where the IP is allocated and that it wont be killed.
I am much relieved to get the repsonse
"In your case your static IP 219.89.80.121 is definitely assigned to 03 3394960 and will not be cancelled."
Hopefully that is the end of it (but I'm not holding my breath)
