TeWharau: Great! I'm signing up! 2degrees coverage in Charteris Bay (Lyttelton Harbour) is spotty at best and for some reason it doesn't roll over to Vodafone so I often end up with "no signal".

Be aware skinny runs on XT's network, so you'll need a phone that does 850MHz 3G/UMTS.

TeWharau: Thanks for that.

A couple more questions unless people think I am hijacking the thread...

Can I change the number once I get the SIM. Like to 0204 if it hasn't been used already?

Is there a timeline when I would be able to top up online (without buying a topup card)?

Cheers.

Hi we have a new website coming in a few weeks that will enable credit card top ups.  This will let you make one-off top-ups with any card or register your card.  With a registered card you can use it with the Skinny Mobile Menu (*888#) or set it to auto topup at thresholds (e.g top up automatically when my balance goes below $5).  We will send texts to let you know when this will happen.  SIMS come with a pre-set 0204 number.  You can then change this now by porting your current number over (free of charge) or when the website is live by choosing your preferred 0204 number for a small fee.

Great to hear! One of the reasons I went away from prepaid was the hassle of having to top up, so that's good news. This new data plan looks great and I'll probably jump over to Skinny soon :)

After being a long term VF mobile customer (10 ++ yrs)I have been looking at the Skinny plans over the past few days. In the context of reviewing a lot of my various accounts-insurance and the likes.
I was on a grandfathered Iphone plan so needed something that gave me a fair bit of data as I use my Galaxy Note to tether to my Assus Transformer prime. I was getting 3 Gb data per month, 2500 txt and 60 mins talk, Most of the txt, data,I wasnt using to its fullest extent.

This morning I went to Dick Smith and purchased a Skinny Sim Card.
Activated it- chose the Loose Lips plan and have added the 600 Data add on.
In total this will give me more talk time and slightly less data over all in the month.
May well change the base plan next week to the Texter plan as I think 100 wont be quite enough.

Now this is the beuty of Skinny I can adjust my plans as I go.
I found the website helpful and the "My account" easy to follow.
Another option I thought of was going completely data centric and use Skype for all calls but txtx may be a problem.
Im not looking at porting just yet. As I like my new number.
Just my thoughts and experience so far.

I think that's Skinny to Skinny calls not to the rest of the world.  Also be aware that Skinny at this point in time has no MMS it's coming  but their plans are good value for money..
