Yes once you have your account setup you can remove or change the card stored

umm... SKinny IS Spark and uses the exact same towers?

essentially the answer is "No" their modem is network locked to their network BUT that is Sparks network too so unless you wanted to pop a VF or 2D sim in you're probably fine?

The label is on top of the sim slot in mine, and as I'm still deciding if I'll return it (0.05mb upload speed on my 2bars/25mb/s download today!)  i cant take it off, but truely believe id see a spark sim in there :)

why would you want to use another provider with the skinny modem both spark and vodafone offer rbi over 4g and both have different coverage than skinny as i can get skinny broadband but cant get either spark or vodafone rbi 4g

i believe spark use the same modem for their 4g rbi as skinny

so both spark and vodafone should sell you or give you a modem

Because Skinny charges $149 for their modem and Spark charges $249 for theirs if I don't want a contract.  I want Skinny, but if it doesn't work for me, it would be cheaper for me to keep it to use with Spark.

BUT only the 'budget' minded Skinny brand offers the $55/60gb contract-less plan... if the speeds "don't work" neither will "Spark" do any better, so you may as well return the modem with your 30 guarantee and skip buying "Spark's" one too?

unless you're trying to use it in an area that Skinny don't cover/allow in their plan... in which case your question is moot as they wont sell it to you anyway?

ok in that case i dont know if the modem is locked or not it does have a custom firmware with the skinny logo at the very least but if i search for network it does find spark and vodafone as the 2 options 

now one other thing it appears to be locked to 4g only i think sparks rbi will use 3g if 4g is not available so even if it does work with a spark sim that could be a problem 

and can you even sign up for a spark rbi account if you dont buy a modem from them?

editing this post because of double post one slight problem it seems with skinny broadband it does not appear to keep a connection active so if i try to load a webpage half the time it sits on connecting for a while then loads and in turn ends up with double posts

it does however seem to work perfectly fine if i run it through a vpn so the connection stays active

hey i dont think it is to do with the upload when it connects it is fast but it hates connecting in the first place 

the same thing with games for example on csgo it works fine once it makes the connection and i can stay in a game all day but it takes it time making the connection first 

so sometimes every page i go to on chrome it gets stuck at connecting for sometimes half a minute and i need to keep refreshing until it works

it is possible i have a faulty modem i guess

as far as speed tests here is one i just did also connected to a vpn in sydney <

For whatever reason, Skinny is only available in the Whangarei CBD.  While there are Spark 4G 700 MHz towers all over Northland, and both the Spark and Skinny 4G 700 MHz maps show me as in the best coverage zone, I am not covered in the Skinny address checker and, in fact, Skinny do not cover anywhere else in Northland.

Seems strange, as Northland desperately needs RBI options.  One of the most economically depressed areas in the country where an option like Skinny is badly needed.

No, Spark's is 4G only as well so it wouldn't make any difference.

freitasm: Speed test over WiFi on a mobile phone are deceiving. Plug a laptop to the ethernet port and try again.

Can you provide more info on this and how the results are deceiving? Is the issue doing the speed test over WiFi or using the mobile device?

So far I have only done tests over WiFi with a laptop, tablet or phone, but they look not too bad (this one is not so fast)
