Hi all,
Thought you all got sicka my banging away at Nokia and telecom to fix the silly little programming inconsistancies so haven't been on for a while. But I see that same things are reacurring and can't blame people for not wanting to sift through 12 pages of posts.

12 pages wayhey! good phone eh!

Well it could be if someone would just grab the situation by the scruff of the neck and fix the glitches.

pcruthven in my post I on fixes and solutions your/our problem is one of them. And taniwha I have tried converting to amr but you need "open gallery" to be an option in the menu or you can only allocate the ringtone as a universal/group tone only.

And I have a similar problem to the Volumn thing where my recordings folder is always filling up with recordings of nothing as the little record button on the side keeps getting pushed accidently (also in my list). So check yours too, you'll find you have lots of recordings of you walking or driving etc. Pain in the butt!

Haven't sent my phone in yet as it doesn't shut down and am still hoping we may get another patch to fix all the problems with the software. No one here has intimated anything else has been fixed. The short (200 song) list in the music player is especially annoying for me. Still very disappointed in Nokia and Telecom for good hardware but bad programming that could have and still could be so much better!

Regards

Telecom has no plans on releasing any new software for the Nokia 6255. So unless there is a major fault that needs to be fixed, affecting lots of customers. They will fix that but unlikely to fix all the minor issues

Thanks for your reply Cellman! It is bad news but good to know what the situation is, Thanks.

With that in mind this will be my first and last Nokia. My old samsung n171 is still going strong in my sons hands. My daughters n391 and wifes a680 all go well and do what they are designed for well. I'm not quite sure why all our other phones are Samsung but have no probs with that.

In hindsight I shouda bought the sanyo 7400 when it first came out then I would have been outa contract again or close to it for the new generation of 1+meg camera and mp3 player phones that look like are about to come out. oh well hindsights always 20/20 isn't it!

I'm putting the majority of the blame for the problems with the programming on Nokia but I have to say that I'm no techo but found most of the issues in the first 2 weeks of owning this phone so the Telecoms testing can't have been very good either. Very disappointed in Nokia for not puting some on this for a couple of weeks to get things right if thats their standard I'm not interested in another Nokia.

The phones still good enough to keep till my contract expires so I can get another on Telecoms excellent sign up deals. Oh what it could have been...............

Hindsight rocks doesnt it.... but then if you got a 1+ MP phone now, you would be kicking yourself if we got a 2MP phone in six or 8 months....

Its a neverending cycle.....

Dont get me wrong I still love my Nokia 6255 and am happy I hung out for it for soooooo long. The BT cakit and the phone just rocks. Its just the the minor niggles that stoped a good h/w spec'd product from being a realy great alround product.... Here's hoping Telecom brings in the Nokia 3155i (with good s/w), as this phone should be a real hit price/feature wise.

I know what your saying Disenchanted but if the phone worked really well I'd not be looking back thinking I shoulda done things in a different way. I'd accept that things had moved on after my purchase date. I'm still very happy with the way my last phone preformed and thats old as now.

Dunno why I get so frustrated with this one perhaps I have little tolerance for things done foolishly. With just a little effort this one could be 100% instead of 90%. And if nokia and telecom are happy with 90% thats not good enough when all the other phone products in our business and home are 100%.

Call me tough or stupid but thats my opinion!

Have a good day~~

got my phone back after 4 weeks...after 2 weeks I find it was not sent !!!... enough said. eventually got it back...old problems of cutting out and reverting to asking for passwords have gone. I could not download music to the new supplied 512m memory card so changed to using a 1gig card I had bought previously.
Not sure what to do with the 512m card as I am not sending the phone back. Any suggestions?
I have downloaded the new version of of PC suite (6.6.16) which seems to work OK.
cheers.George

Firstly geo how did you end up with a 512 card ( As i havent sent my phone in yet). Did you just leave the 32mb card in and get the 512 by default or what???

Secondly you my need to format the card, I havent had to do it but just looked at my phone here is the method

Menu/gallery/ make sure your card is only highlighted/options button/format mem. card

I didnt go past this piont as didn't want to risk my card being automatically reformatted.

Hope this helps let me know about the above and how the format went.

regards

i sent in 2 phones to MFr - one with the 32MB in place, the other without any card.

Both came back just as i had sent them. no new 512MB card for me.

its a long story but the supply of 512 card is related to the over 4 weeks delay in getting the phone back. It works fine now it is formatted (thanks). The phone problems I had was cutting out/off and bluetooth synch errors. Both seem OK now. cheers George

I had a bizzarre problem where my 6255 would freeze, the keypack backlight would turn off and the main screen, still backlit, would fade to a pure-white before appearing to turn off (but it wasn't actually, since the phone lock wouldn't come back on). The phone was flashed once (taken directly to MFR) and the problem still occurred (which I suspected would happen since it felt like a little more deeper than a firmware issue). Was reflashed a second time (with problem explicitly written on job sheet and the fact that it was intermittent) and to my dismay, not less than an hour later, the issue recurred. Argued with store for a while and because I'm quite passive, let them take it in themselves. Contacted them five days later and they hadn't heard back from MFR. Gave me new handset, 512MB card as well. While I had argued with the staff we were both pleased (it seemed) with the resolution.

I also experienced what Taniwha is now experiencing which was solved with the first flashing.

I have, in the three days that I have had it, found a problem where I copied a file via Bluetooth accidentally that I didn't want transferred and attempted to cancel it. It was overwriting water.gif and I stupidly turned off the bluetooth device on PC end. Phone didn't like it - after a while mentioned it had been disconnected but the file water.gif is now corrupted (no thumbnail, unable to remove, rename, etc.) but I don't mind since it's a trivial file, small and my own fault. A flash would solve this one though but I've had enough.

This is my third 6255 (First was OBF)

Total issue time: 1+ Month (How long would you say it has been taniwha?)
Total Flashes: 2
Total Telecom visits (Return and ESN swapping, etc.): at least 8
Time with alternative phone (my old T60c): 2+ weeks

Pleased with resolution and even though I really like the handset however, I am not pleased with Nokia. I am so paranoid now that I have this handset in fear that somehow the issue will reappear.

Please SonyEricsson, come back to CDMA somehow :P

Damo-K: Please SonyEricsson, come back to CDMA somehow :P

Sony Ericsson sent a couple of mid-20's hip-looking guys on a road trip about 18 months ago to announce to Telecom staff / dealers / partners that they were getting back into CDMA (after the two dismal faliures that were the T60c and the T206). They said they had great new handsets coming out, and were going to blow the CDMA handset market away with what they had.

Number of CDMA handsets released (edit: "In New Zealand") by Sony-Ericsson since then: 0 (zero)

Their GSM stuff looks pretty reasonable to me, but after owning Sanyos for a while, its hard to get past the "in-your-face-simplicity-while-still-retaining-lots-of-functionality" that they have. (More so than Nokia in my opinion).
