I'm very happy with Big Pipe speeds

I know we've been told in this thread not to use speedtest but here it is (and this is over wifi too)

Modem sync speeds are 60308Kbps / 10332Kbps

Bigpipe,

Not that I want to give you money, but when are the notices going out about how to pay for the service after the trial is finished?  Hate to have missed it and get cut off...

Hi

If you signed up after the 10th Feb you should have received some info about that already. Please let me know if you did not.
If you signed up before 10th Feb,  then you should receive something about it tomorrow.

We won't be cutting you off though. We're nice :D

An excellent result considering the line distance. Enjoy. smile

Really need to know your downstream attenuation to give a better answer, but a 27Mbps sync rate is pretty good for a 700m distance I would say

don't think that is quite right.  Attenuation shouldn't be higher than about 12dB for VDSL

One problem / issue / concern I have just found is that Bigpipe will ONLY accept Credit Card payments ... no monthly payments, no automatic payments, no internet banking .. I didn't ask about personally paying with cash at their office, but presume that would be a no also :-)

So, for those of us without a credit card (or access thereto), are you considering introducing at least an Internet Banking option in the near future?

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback.

We also accept Debit cards (visa debit,  mastercard debit), and other cards that work the same way e.g. Prezzie cards.

referring to the bolded part, the payments are monthly though, and automatically taken.

Credit/Debit cards are just much easier for us to manage, it means we can easily run Bigpipe as prepaid, so we avoid things like credit checks, chasing bad debt, and other things that cost us money, and therefore would impact the price you pay.

We also think it's by far the most convenient way for our customers to pay - it's all online, the payment is automatic and will only ever be the price of the plan you signed up to - no possibility of bill shock, you can change your card with a few clicks (no annoying direct debit mandate to fill out and post).  You also get the protection of paying by credit card (fraud protection), as well as whatever interest free period you get on your credit card (up to 55 days in most cases), plus whatever other rewards your CC gives you, whether that's airmiles, cash back or whatever.
We don't charge any credit card 'convenience' fees, and neither do we charge late payment fees, or anything like that.

So we have no plans at this stage to introduce other payment methods, although who knows what the future may bring.  If direct debit proves to be simple to implement, we may do that, but it isn't on our roadmap.

Well I got connected yesterday on the $79 ADSL plan and so far it's extremely disappointing. Download speeds seem to be throttled to 200kB/s. Last night a single download maxes out at approximately 200kB, two downloads and they settle to approximately 100kB each, four downloads 50kB each etc. My other provider the day before I was getting just over 1MB/s. The line attenuation is fine.

Also trying to do anything else while downloading, even just web browsing is hopeless. I checked again this morning and no change still leveling off at 200kB. If it was congestion or anything else I would expect it to fluctuate not settle to a rather consistent 200kB. Really disappointed BigPipe, so far it's a very bad value.
