kingjj: We just upgraded from 20gb to 40gb, don't need 80gb, I look forward to downgrading to the 40gig plan next month and saving myself a tenner. Good stuff Telecom.

I'm not changing plans, since the lower ones are all terrible.

I'd have preferred half the price rather than twice the data. ...going down to 30 gig from this 120 just isn't worth the mere dollar a day saving. ...what can we do to punish them for this annoying business practice but ensure we guzzle up every drop of bandwidth available?

kobiak: this is cool, but what a joke to increase data at the end/start of billing cycle in May. They should of increase DATA at the begging of upcoming end of billing cycle which is at 27th April for me... :( shame really to wait another month to enjoy double DATA.

I don't know about you, but it'll take me quite a bit of time to figure out just what exactly I can do to eat up that much bandwidth in the coming month(s). ...having not planned to double my data, not having it immediately is hardly something to cry about...it's just business as usual.

Recently we've been looking at changing ISP as we consistently blow our 60gig cap on current Telecom plan (going 60-80gig over), and its quite an additional cost. However hearing about this is making me think twice about switching (Perfectly happy with the service).

Unfortunately I never received an email about my plan being increased, also a friend on mine recently signed up to telecom and got a 100GB plan for $145 when we currently pay..

1 Homeline @ $41.60
1 Broadband Pro 60GB Plan @ $86
= $127.60

I could not find an option to switch to this 100GB plan from 'Your Telecom' and while looking at the double data information it said

"Please note: we are not increasing the data allowance on any of our business broadband plans or our standalone broadband plans (Go, Explorer, Adventure and Pro)."

Which leads me to believe we fall into this category?? Having not heard anything and not being able to change to one of these better plans??
I'm not sure how it is a standalone broadband plan we we have the Homeline also with telecom, and have done for many years at this address.

Is anyone in a similar situation or able to shed some light on this for me, it would be much appreciated

Though I am not 100% sure, I would suspect the 100GB plan is not available because the double data plans exceed 100GB and perhaps they are not going to double that plan or don't want to have it available to people not already on it.

If you believe you are being excluded from the double data promotion due to having a standalone broadband package, why not just get a combined package? You're already using them for the landline anyway and you're paying more than if it was a bundle.

I pay $115.00 for 60GB and landline (Total Home broadband) - note that there are different bundles depending on your calling habits- if you want nationwide calling for up to 2 hours I think its slightly more - but you can add a specific region for $5 / month.

When Pro went from 40GB to 60GB last year (around August) you should have gotten a letter telling you this, but also saying that you should check to see if you were better of on a bundle. Either you didn't get this letter, or you ignored it.

Either way, you will definitely be better off on a bundle. Just phone 123 and ask to switch to Total Home Broadband. It's $105 (saving you around $20), you will get 120GB from next month, and the calling rates are better than on Homeline. (so calls you make will be cheaper too). You won't need to sign up to a contract.

I did look at changing plans with telecom, but had done this through the 'Your Telecom' plan change option, which lists my current plan of 60GB as the highest available, and had assumed this was correct, as at the start of last year i had looked into changing it as well.

It's always good to know what is out there anyway!

Check out the available plans from the link below, for maximum data see the Total Home Broadband bundle... at the very end of the table it shows the add-ons, for an extra $20 you can get 160GB (rather then the standard $120GB). Which to be honest could be displayed a bit clearer.

Our plan usually changes over on the 16th, but we changed plans online on Sunday and its updated today to the new amount :)

Ops i should have updated my post.. I changed to the "package" deal (Homeline + 100GB) from the separate version i was on for $18 more than what i was paying. I fill in an online form and it was already switched over the next morning!

This month when it switches over, Wednesday I believe, it will be $20 cheaper and 160GB.. bit of an upgrade! $127 for 60gig to $125 for 160gig..feels its like I am getting 100gig for $3 a month extra

This is a bit odd....I already was on 100gig....so my increase goes to 160gig.....I have a friend who was on 80gig and now gets 160gig....He is still paying the same and so am i....so in essence I am now paying more for the 160gig than he is....

I guess I should contact Xtra about this.

Mobile broadband is completely different and therefore priced differently - you're paying a premium to be able to access your broadband on the go.

And why should we pay a premium ? There are a LARGE number of people who have no landlines.
