I paid $10 for mine and on the 2 Degrees site they are listed at $10-20.

I went in store and it was $5. That was with no credit of any kind. I think the $20 ones on the site come with data.

Great Vaule telecom pity about the limited time offer, I too hope 2degrees stump up with some thing a little better especially in the text's department I find 300 just isn't quite enough, might make the move if they haven't done something come October.

I have been recently eyeing up these $19 plans myself since moving off a Vodafone plan onto 2 Degrees prepay a few months ago.

With the lack of decent coverage around my house from 2D and comparatively high standard prices of Vodafone it now leaves Telecom as a very decent option for me, However the plan cancelling after being unable to be renewed is sad to see as it renders it almost useless to me because I am unable to predict when I'll be able to top up.

$10 Top Ups and $5 Simcards however are both very nice to see and something that would be nice to see adopted across the board, I seem to remember 2 Degrees having cheap simcards which does not seem to be the case now.

You have 33-34 days to give Telecom $19 somehow (aka, a month and 3 days) - You can topup anytime, you don't need to sell your soul, you don't need to sell your firstborn each and every time, just go down to some shop or use your debit card and top up, there is plenty of time.

Here's hoping this doesn't have to be explained again on each page.

Also, you'll get many texts alerting you to topup, or use the Calendar on your phone to remind you near when you get paid.

I realize that its not that bad, However it does make it unsuspendable intentionally or otherwise, which to someone who doesn't use their phone all that much is rather irritating.

This is fantastic value. I might pop in to a Telecom shop and pick up a SIM tomorrow.

But I am a bit confused, according to this page:

I can get the $19 pack and add a My Favourite for $6, so I can call a Telecom mobile as much as I like.

However, according to this page:

I cannot get My Favourite because the $19 "BIG Value Pack" is not listed.

Ah... confused...

Therefore the My Favourites is an additional extra for the standard prepaid plan. That is certainly the case with the $20 talk-text-data extra I have just cancelled. I have operated it plus a my favourites extra for several months. I am assuming the new value pack extra will operate in the same way.
And once again the overseas call-centre was useless in finding out any of the above. It was only by going into a Telecom store that I sorted it out. What I still can't do is determine when the 'my favourites' renews. It is not included on the 'Your Telecom' webpage, nor is it available via he automated voice system on *333.

It looks to me Telecom is canning the standard Prepaid plan (i.e. the 69 cents/min version). If I go to telecom.co.nz, then click Mobile, then Plans and Pricing, then click "Find out more" on the Prepaid pricing section, all you can see is the new plan / rate (i.e. 44 cents a minute).

I hope we can get My favourite with the $19 pack, and calls get rounded to a second (after the first minute), then it will be fantastic

Yes it does. My Favourites can be added to the 69c Pay as You Go plan, but not the Smart Prepaid 44c base plan. you can add the $19 BIG Value Pack to both of these base plans (and the older One Rate option should you still have this).

What I still can't do is determine when the 'my favourites' renews. It is not included on the 'Your Telecom' webpage, nor is it available via he automated voice system on *333.

IIRC My Favourites is still billed incrementally (i.e. it's a cap) and rolls over on the 1st of the month unlike other extras which have an anniversary date and paid up-front (i.e. deducted from your prepaid balance after purchase).

It's still a valid plan for customers wanting My Favourites which is not available on Smart Prepaid (44c).

You can, if you are on the Pay as you go base plan.

I think telecom should update their Web page and make it clear to customers that they can pick either the pay as you go base plan or the Smart Prepaid plan. And also give a clear comparison on what sort of extras are available on each base plan.

From the info I get from the website, I am not confident that I can sign up to the pay as you go base plan as a new customer.

"Smart Prepaid is our default Prepaid plan for new prepaid customers and offers the rates mentioned above. [...] You can change your plan yourself by calling *333 from your mobile and following the prompts or by using our online form."

Edit: Hmm, after re-reading it (and looking at the form), it's to move *to* Smart Prepaid, not in both directions. I see what you're getting at now!

I couldn't find any reference to the anniversary date for 'My Favourites' so thank you nzbnw for clarifying that. I like the fact that it is a capped amount, as some months I don't use it but others it gets thrashed. I'll live with the 69c rate for anything over 60min on the PAYG plan and see if that is better or 44c/min on Prepaid Smart without My Favourites.

What is still ambiguous, and I believe is causing confusion, is the statement

"If you Top up the required credit each month at your renewal date, you can keep the BIG Value Pack on an ongoing basis!" (quoted directly from Telecom website)

I tend to put a lump sum on once every 3 months or so. Enough to cover all operations for that quarter. The above statement could be read that by doing that I am not "Topping up the required credit each month". However the way I am reading it is that as long as I have the required credit on my account at the anniversary date it will automatically renew. If I have insufficient credit at the anniversary date, the Big Value Pack extra will be gone-burger and not able to be reinstated. Surely it makes better business sense for Telecom to have my money well in advance rather than expect me to topup with a smaller amount each month.

Edit: Behodar's post above came in while I was composing. I hadn't considered that 'Prepaid Smart' and 'PAYG' was a one way street (towards PPS)...

Gotta ask, is this confusion accidental? I thought purposely making things confusing disappeared with a previous CEO...

Still doesn't explain what happens after October 31?? Are there going to be no $19 ~ $20 prepay plans. No one has said anything about this??

I'd be interested to know what happens after October 31st. I'm still on contract at the moment and it ends slightly after October.
