It could be a huge opportunity for AT&T to beat Verizon to the punch in terms of sheer data speed. As you know, Verizon has the largest 4G LTE network in the US thanks largely in part to the fact that they had a sizable head start over AT&T and pretty much everyone else.

Verizon also has a CDMA network that has a crap data network these days so there is a real incentive for them to roll out LTE as fast as possible where as AT&T had a WCDMA network which does support a good data network so the need wasn't there ..

iphone 5, ipad mini, and retina all supported LTE at 1800MHz band and 850MHz band. most important is available 'useable' device around for us to enhance the experience.

VHA australia has announced some where they are going big with 850MHz, logically i don't see any devices going to support the australia and new version of 700MHz which is different from US 700MHz range.

and what is good about 850MHz ... well Samsung has huge range of LTE850 device available in their own country, since they migrated CDMA to LTE850 instead of Telecom WCDMA850 though.

what other devices that support LTE 1800MHz that is available today?

Behodar: I have a question about the other technology in the press release, DC-HSDPA. Is there a list of the 30% and 50% of sites available somewhere?

Just responding to my own question :)

Someone else asked Telecom about this on Twitter. There's no map yet but apparently there will be one available soon.

Yep, there is a map internally, but nothing public yet. But I know the guys are working on it..

Are the 1800mhz licences which are only 3mhz wide on http://map.geek.nz/ related to the LTE test?
Im seeing them even in places like Northport as well as the sky tower, i cant think what else they would be using 1800mhz for. But 3mhz seems like a very small range and the frequencies seem to vary.

edit: found a wider one:

14MHz wide @ 1846.5 MHz

Are these accurate or relevant at all? Or just happen to be licensed locations telecom has but arent being used.

Orewa I drove thru the other day and noticed new Kit on the cell as you come into the township just before the main bridge on the left heading North on top of the Dairy

That I can understand carrying out the physcial work on sites - I think Mr Biddle did a blog post of sites in the Hutt late last year, but the licencing of 3MHz services is a bit small for LTE services, 3GPP standards talk about a minimum of 5MHz for useful connections

1800Mhz is used for other point to point purposes as well.

I'm pretty certain VF historically used 1800 DMR kit as well for some PtP purposes.

Yes along with Transpower and others. I think a lot of the VF ones have been dropped with cell sites being fibred up
