The network with the best coverage in NZ both on land and sea is Telecom's AMPS network. Unfortunately that only has a few weeks left.

Im just saying that my experiances are that an 027 loses signal around town a lot more then a vodafone, whereas when I was driving thru the middle of nowhere, frequantly my 021 would show signal but not actually work, whereas the telecom was showing minimal signal and worked fine.

Its amazing how often in the middle of nowhere a gsm phone will show signal, only to have it disappear and give the 3 beeps when you try to use it, and then to have it come back again once you are not trying to use it.

Laughable. When I had the Geekzone moderators here in Wellington for a meetup I had the opportunity to show them how we were under a Vodafone mini cell site and still my mobile would show no signal and simply wouldn connect any call - both incoming or outgoing.

I really mean under: we were less than three meters from the mini cell site, on Lambton Quay.

We were standing next to the pole... the 'mitter was about 2 - 3 meters up..... really...

As bad as CDMA up in Hastings industrial area - full signal, no calls in or out, and texts take about 2 hours... (in or out).
Most of the time.

May have been off for servicing etc.

But even still - it was in the cbd in the street. One could reasonably expect GSM reception at the very least.

Perfect cdma reception while I was down there at the same location - no blackspots at all.

Only blackspot I've found in Auckland for cdma is in one side of dress smart in a few of the shops in one corner. Not saying that is the only one but I've rarely seen a area in the city where both my voda (not on 3G though) and Telecom handset won't work.

We don't use 1900 in NZ and no 1900 in Europe

900/1800 GSM and 2100 UMTS

and coming 900 UMTS

And no coverage standing under a 1800 site using a 1800 phone can't have been on

Would be interesting to know if its like that today?? Can anyone test this and get the cell ID
