Yyrael:Lizard1977:plambrechtsen:Satch: I purchased a 3GS outright from Vodafone on launch day and they couriered it to me with same day delivery. NZ was the first country they were released in by a few hours. So it has happened.
I understand why the telcos want to sell them at launch on contract, but they should also allow outright sales to existing customers already on contracts. I realise though that this could be open to abuse.
I would say it has very little to do with any Telco providing outright purchasing on launch date since if they had the stocks it wouldn't be an issue.
The supply issue should not be understated. Hence why there is the preference for on-account customers.
I was there for the Telecom 4 & 4S launch and the stores only had 2 each of the black & white 64GB models for the ones that were open at midnight, but the stocks soon came in about 2 weeks later (due to worldwide demand) and then outright purchasing and prepaid became an option.
I went in to the Telecom store in PN on Sunday and was told that I couldn't get the iPhone 5S on an open term plan, even if I bought it through the 24 month interest free option. I take your comment about the supply issue, but from what the salesperson said, they had plenty of stock - are you able to give us any indication when iPhone 5S sales will be relaxed, allowing people to buy it on the open term plan? If it's just a week or two more, then that's fine, but if it's going to be months, then I'll change my plans.
iPhone 5S are available on an Ultra Open plan with a 24 month interest free payment. This store is wrong, if you have issues have the manager email me directly at Josh.Savage@telecom.co.nz or have him call 123 to confirm.
iPhone 5Cs are available for outright purchase.
Thanks, I figured they were wrong.
Just to clarify, though. If I buy the iPhone on the 24 month interest free deal, but I pay it off in 6 months, am I still committed to pay $39 a month for the remaining 18 months? If so, then that's not really an open term plan...
