I think if I do get VDSL (and it looks like I might be soon) I'll sell the Telecom-supplied one and use the Netcomm one instead. I have a Netcomm ADSL router right now and it works really well, plus I like the interface - easy to use.

In another thread I posted my line statistics from my current ADSL setup. Based on that, could anyone give a suggestion as to what kind of upstream I might expect on VDSL? At the moment on ADSL I barely get 1 Mb/s.

Final update.

I've just confirmed that the HG560b works with the Huawei E3531 USB stick and you get internet access (it's what I am using to post this now) it takes about 2 mins to come up, but it connects automatically. It appears on my very quick test the E8278 doesn't work, but that could be my setup and the test device / sim I was using it with.

What Wi-Fi speeds do you get from the hua wei ? 150 or 300 Mbps? What about the pace router in comparison?

Who do I have to fellate at Telecom to get my TG589vn switched out with one of these? Couple of 8.1 computers here, yeah I can manually set the DNS but I shouldn't have to.

LOL - I only have a mobile phone, but I used a 'telephone' at work, dialed 123 and explained the Windows 8.1 issue.
I now have a new modem.

Every body here keeps mentioning Windows and this new Telecom modem.

As requested in this post: how does this modem work on an Apple only home network?

Telecom just texted this morning that we would be connected by 1900 on Monday 17th as a new customer for land line and ADSL internet. Still awaiting modem which was ordered on Monday 10th.

Cheers

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

300 Mbps.
This one is a WiFi 802.11b/g/n (2x2) and support 20/40 MHz switching.File transfer speeds average around 3.5 MB/s for large files to a USB stick (Signal Strength -65 dbm).

Way better WiFi coverage than the TG587n.
