Technofreak: I'm not sure which screen you are referring to but you can put anything you like on the unlock sceeen.

The N9 is probably the easiest phone to close apps on. Just swipe down from the top of the screen - app closed.

Have you had time to look at the onboard user guide?

Set up Swype as your keyboard, it takes some getting used to but very good once you master it.

Meego is very different from S6 V5

Some of the features of the N9 are not immediately obvious. Stick with it you'll I'm sure you'll become a fan.

I am slowly figuting it out, when i double click it/unlock it I see the wall paper but when I return from apps its a black screen with the weather and date. and time.. Dinosaur I know,

Horrible US, the music player sucks compared to TTPOD, just useless eye candy when you double tap the phone you get a screen but then the home screen background remains blank and can not be changed, Why make things hard by removing buttons or just X so I can click and its closed or have option, this rubbish swipe this and swipe that, I hate these sqare eye candy bar apple look alike phones. I had such high hopes but my x5800 is superior in all ways for my needs. Worse part is now I have initiated a number transfer (damn it) from voda to skinny.

are all phones like this now? I am not one of those guys who looks at his phone all the time, I dont care how much what it has as long as its universal, simple, pretty, slick and does things fast.

I'm really sorry and disappointed that you don't like the N9. You are going to struggle to find anything much different these days and certainly nothing any better than the N9 IMO.

I found Android to be very inconsistent with the way different apps worked especially the methods used to exit or close an app. I'm not a fan of WP as it lacks functionality that I use and I have only used iOS on an iPad so cannot really comment on their phones, except to say I think Apple phones are way over rated.

So far as the music player is concerned I must confess I'd never heard of TTPOD. I'd presumed you had been using the stock player in the 5800. I consider the player in N9 to be superior to the stock player in the 5800. However that doesn't help you. What is it you like so much about TTPOD? Perhaps there is an alternative.

If it's any consolation almost every time I've bought a new device there's been features that I've missed though in the end I've got passed that and enjoyed the new device.

Perhaps you may have been more comfortable with a Symbian Belle device like the Nokia 700. It has a similar button set up to the 5800 but with a much better OS than S60 V5 but still IMO not as good as the Meego OS in the N9.

The only advice I can offer right now is don't be too hasty and dismiss the N9 out of hand. Other than going back to your 5800 you will probably have similar issues with most other phones you can buy right now. Give it a chance.

I don't even understand how to install any apps, I dont know how to browse files, on my 5800 I would just connect this to the pc and download/install it, on the n9 the nokia PC store in the PC suite wont work. there is a screen/wallpaper when I unlock it, then there I never see that screen again and I am welcomed to a black home screen. :( with no quick launch buttons like I have used forever, even my friends Iphone has like a background, here I have to work with codes to do that!

TTPOD is like the best music player you can get, Its made in China :P but packs a great punch, pretty much the best Music player I have used. the Stock music player in X5800 was crap, and the one in the n9 is still crap in comparison. actually I might like the stock one from the x5800 better. the n9 is even thicker/wider to grip. I tried the sterio speakers of my x5800 which were superior to the single mono.

Do you know what kind of a phone the x5800 is? Its not exactly a smart phone, its surely not a dumb phone but what is it and do they make em like that anymore? its like these new smart phones are just way to make me more dumb & confussed (if that was even possible) to do basic stuff I can simply and more efficiently do with my 5800.

Mind giving me a list of all the mods you have for your n9? share them with me will you? I sent you a PM. :(

I wish it looked something like this, maybe with something like a better music player.

I've used TTPOD, definitely one of the best music player, unfortunately i downloaded the latest version onto my phone and its blocked the service here in NZ.

Apps are downloaded and installed using the Nokia Store app on the phone. I think if you have the files for the app on your computer you can drag and drop them onto the phone icon on the lower left of the Nokia Suite screen and they will install from there.

You can connect the N9 to your PC as a Mass Storage drive and browse the files from there.

Like you I like Nokia Suite but this sort of programme has fallen out of favour. I have found with the N9 all I do with Nokia Suite is to back up my contacts, I would use it for calendar entries as well but since I use Exchange Active Sync for that I don't as using both method results in double entries. It works well for me.

You can still use Nokia Suite do send and receive texts if you use that function on the 5800.

Wallpapers have never been a big deal for me. I never notice what you say however I can see what you mean. Other than the app screen there are only two other screens (windows), one where the currently open apps are displayed. Did you know you can change the size of the display for each of these apps. Just pinch and or zoom to make them bigger or smaller.

I know what you mean by quick launch though there again not a biggie for me. There is a quick launch of sorts from the unlock screen, just pull the wallpaper up part way and you'll see the quick launch items. There is an app that allows you to change the apps in the quick launch bar.

One other method is to leave open the apps that you use often (by default these are probably the ones that would be on the quick launch bar). You can then access these quickly from the open apps window. The other option is to rearrange the apps on the app screen to put the ones you use most at the top.

I haven't looked but there may be a quick launch app.

What makes TTPOD so good? I've only ever used the stock player in the 5800, E7 or N9 and have been quite satisfied. However I know others will have different preferences.

Yes, the N9 is wider to grip than the 5800 but the N9 is appreciably thinner and still a much better size than almost any other phone these days.

I agree the stereo speakers on the 5800 were excellent, the only other phone that I have seen that comes close is the HTC One and that's a whopping big phone compared to the 5800 and N9. The only other phone that matches the 5800 size with stereo speakers is another 5800.

I mostly use my phone with a ear plugs. The wired remote that comes with the 5800 also works with the N9.

Yes I know what the 5800 is. It is a smart phone, it does all the N9 does (or an iPhone for that matter), browse the internet, check and reply to emails, watch videos, turn by turn navigation, calendar which you can sync remotely with your laptop, Skype, music player, social apps, camera, QR Code reade, WiFi hotspot, I could go on.

I agree that some functions are presented differently and operate differently but the same stuff is there in both phones. A bit like a new car it'll have air con or cruise control just like the old car but the knobs, levers and buttons will be different or in different places.

Mind giving me a list of all the mods you have for your n9? share them with me will you?

Most are available from the Ovi store, like: Opera Mobile browser, Battery usage, screenshot, Filebox, Firefox browser, world clock, compass, NFC interactor, Tag writer, FM radio, Phone torch, Panorama, Flight Mode, skyfiles, convertor.

There are others Ringtone restore, cute radio, tweak up which I think I got directly from the developers sites. You can side load apps quite easily.

Sorry I don't have time right now to explain what all the apps do but you can Google if you need more info.
