zocster: Success! It looks like you should be able to get Skinny Broadband at your place. Your Skinny modem can only be used at this address. If used anywhere else, we may need to stop your service.

So can't use it while mobile?

Guess they have put this clause to stop the service from being used by real world smartphone and tablet users on the go with huge amounts of data available to them anywhere?

Do whatever you want to do man.

I like this, this is something that can work! Simple, no chorus contractors, super fast 4G speeds, and cheap too - for basic internet and YouTube use.

Would like to see the use of 3G networks too for rural and other areas that has mobile coverage, and an unlimited plan for around $89-100 per month or more plans to suit the bill like 150GB or 1TB data caps etc..

Sorry you can't do 'Voice over IP' with Skinny Broadband. But of course you can use apps like Skype or Viber to make and receive calls if you want to.

It is behind CG-NAT.

and if you want to make cheap calls then you could always join Skinny Mobile...

I did mean primarily VoIP through another provider, but with CG-NAT, then I guess the answer is no.

voip to 2talk works fine through Flip CGNAT as long as you configure their sip proxy, it may well work on other CGNAT implementations.

Yes, very interesting -- much faster than my useless Spark VDSL (14/1) on download, but sadly not much faster on upload (which I use a lot). And 2 years until fibre. Hmmm.

Did someone ask about VPN? What's the answer there?

I certainly would love to get onto this, I've been on mobile broadband the last 10 years, at as you can imagine great expense and restricted data amounts/month. Where I am now, there is "coverage" for this unit, however I'm moving in 2 months, and that address does not have "coverage".

Is there anywhere that lists off planned upgrades so I can see if its in the pipeline?
I would sign up now even if there will be a period of time I cannot use it if I have a month the 4G service is likely to be expanded.

If this is regarding setting up a VPN with a static IP address, this is not something we support with this product sorry.

Unfortunately we don't have access to the roll out plan at the moment, but Spark are always updating their coverage sites. Our Address Checker is updated each month so check back to see if you might be able to get coverage at a later date. If there's a lot of demand for a roll out plan then we may look into this in the near future.

I think he probably means VPN such as OpenVPN etc which I expect would work if it already works over the Spark network.

He does; not static IP address. Cisco VPN to my workplace computer. Use it with Spark VDSL. Didn't know whether wireless broadband would be different.

All kinds of VPNs work for me using Vodafone RBI. I don't see why Spark's Rural Broadband, or the Skinny variant would be any different.
