After looking at the OP's address I'm still not convinced that the problems are just distance related, but don't have the ability to see any data that should prove or disprove this. Somebody at Spark would be able to see sync rates of nearby customers so it'd be interesting to know what they are.

They're one of about 40 premises that are connected back to the exchange beyond the cabinetised areas so the numbers don't stack up for a cabinet. Distance wise however looking at both logical and illogical MPF paths I'd only pick the distance at around 3km, which should certainly have far lower attenuation than that. It could just be bad copper, or it could simply be bad pairs.

Unfortunately its a case of bad copper and West Auckland tree roots. I've done a couple of master filters in this patch and sync speed is no where near 10Mbps. Best option for more speed would be RBI. Could possibly get some 4G, or if you need a larger data pack, then the 3G RBI 500GB plan from Ultimate Broadband may be a good option.

RBI doesn't work in our area. We've called Spark and Compass wireless. Does Ultimate Broadband use some other tower or technology or something? That could make them coming over to have a look worth it I think.

EDIT: Don't they just work in the Christchurch area?

Ultimate Broadband are over Vodafones network. How is Vodafone signal like at your place?

Worse than Spark by a long shot. At least Spark gives us 1-2 bars where we live.

Remember a proper RBI installation with external antenna gets a far better signal than a handheld phone.

Have you checked VF RBI coverage here. 3G with antenna looks to cover a good portion of the area...

I've done a few "on the boarder" or beyond the border installs. I have a customer in the Waikato that is well outside the RBI / 3G / 4G coverage, yet is getting a great 20+Mbps 4G RBI connection. Could be worth a try.
