Will be also interesting if Spark is forced to wholesale their RBI product. Puts their wholesale price very low, as they can't be seen as anti-competitive offering a better wholesale price (of similar / better product) to other providers / subsidiaries.

I have just ordered,

I am sick of slow ADSL speeds, VDSL will never be available and UFB is Dec 2019

Also I notice that it is every 30days not monthly ( it means that billing will not be x day every month )

The market will look after itself. Broadband in NZ is expensive, or at least that's what my Australian friends keep on telling me. ISP margins are razor thin -- the money goes to the last mile, usually at a regulated, fixed cost.

I know a few people on low incomes for whom the extra $12-20/week for broadband is a lot. Anything that cuts that back and lets their kids get online to do their homework is a good thing in my book.

Agreed with that. Although, I don't think Australia's broadband is really any cheaper. Just checked TPG - $99.95 a month for unlimited NBN (if you can get it) - does include (VOIP) phone though, so when you do the currency conversions, and add our GST, they seem to be paying more. Spark for the same deal here (100Mbps UFB including Phone) is $99.95 NZ (and I'm sure you can find better deals on both sides of the ditch). Also, our UFB is actually 100mbps, their NBN is 'up to' as it is mostly going to be FTTN. Grass is greener here methinks.

A friend in Australia says you can get 50GB for $59/mo from ovo (4G; not fixed-location), and unlimited from Vivid for $89/mo (4G; fixed location, capped to 12/1), and that the new 100GB/$52 Skinny price is pretty good compared to .au.

Remember, though, that these are all wireless plans avoiding that wonderful, expensive fixed line infrastructure. The cheapest fixed-line provider in NZ, flip, uses Slingshot's ULL network. There's nothing like that for fibre, yet. I wonder if the LFCs would make more money if they offered wholesale plans at prices commesurate with fixed-wireless, or if their cost-base is too high to allow that.

That's odd. My speeds have stayed consistent over more than a week so far. Still hitting between 35-40mbps with 16 ping

Got my router yesterday and I cant do a speed test, speedtest.net shown 35MB down but will not do an upload.

I know it is working otherwise I would not be able to post here.

I have managed to download something in about 6 minutes that would normally take about 20 - 30 minutes on my 2Deg ADSL

Signal seems to be up and down, the storm at the moment will not help.

I have not tried to connect the VoIP phones yet.

I might need external antenna to improve signal and I am getting 2-3 / 5 bars.

Would be nice to know what frequency it is running, I assume 1800MHz as the spark website says no 3G here.

I will plumb it in properly tomorrow to see how it performs.

Very wierd! I've been on Skinny BB since March and have a consistent 25/2 on a 1bar (inside 1/5,not 'lights' 1/3) signal and only drop down in heavy rain (like now) to 12/1... sounds like you have a dodgy router, perhaps PM @livingskinny to try a swap or reset?

Personally I would not use any of those types antenna as they have long cables. At 1800MHz you need very good quality cable and connectors otherwise it will attenuate any gains in the antenna.

I am looking at these ones for myself.

The gain is not huge, I am looking for some better ones, I dont want to put a Yagi or log periodic outside as the cable run will be a killer ( attenuation wise )

I dont think there will be an issue for the reasona above, if your referring to Skinny/Bigpipe they are not seperate entitys and have been moved back into the main Spark core business out of Ventures (source latest Spark Annual report) So Bigpipe is now a brand/offering under the main Spark business. looks like Venture's is now Ventures 2.0 and onto the next big thing.

Feilding is like an Internet black hole.
We've got a spark 4g connection just out of town (feilding) and it gets about 8Mbs.
Vodafone RBI at the same site was about 4Mbs.
