$58/month for the first year and $88 for the second on a 24 month contract.
This seems really close to bait and switch to me..

On the plus side, $68/month no contact seems like the best deal on the market.

Both prices are clearly listed so it's fine, unlike some other company that hid the second year price and got fined by ComCom.

We hear what you're saying, but that's why there are other ISP options if you want to BYO device. Changing providers and setting up devices is not a big deal for people who know their tech (Geekzoners, generally) but for those that don't (probably 99 percent of the market) changing settings on a modem/router after switching ISPs is one of the deeper Circles of Hell. The experience couldn't be more different from mobile where changing providers can be just a matter of changing SIM cards. We're going for the smoothest possible customer experience for purchasing and support. Skinny Unlimited is targeted at customers who will definitely find it easier, and who will be much happier, to get the modem up front.

A little advice for you from someone who has spent a lot of time on this subject - If you enable port based authentication of your users, then users curning on to your service and keeping their existing router is completely painless. Port based auth works a lot smoother and with less hassle than forcing users to swap to your supplied router and all the associated wireless reconnecting etc.

Even if you use PBA it doesn't guarantee it's smooth sailing. There's also DHCP/PPPoE and VLAN tagging to consider, for starters.

Actually it isn't.

The price is $58 per month, then $88 includes the modem and set up and is clearly spelt out, when the contract is up it goes to the $68 per month. Over all it is cheaper than the $68 option and paying for the modem and connection.

@skinnyBB I had a question in the other thread before I realised this one existed.

I am in a VDSL area until 2018, when this time comes and I can get Fibre is there a cost involved with switching over?

It also says that to switch over the user has to request this, how will I know that Fibre has become available in my street? Is this based on the Chorus availability of other?

You save just under $30 by using the contract option.

Both are great options IMO, I just think 24 is a long time to commit to something, would rather get the off contract option

That's only for ADSL? Where as this Skinny prices is best available out of ADSL, VDSL and Fibre100

Last time I checked Flip weren't offering Fibre - is that still the case? I guess the difference is Flip do refer-a-friend but Skinny offer 100/20 with the plan.

Nope, for no good technical reason they only do copper.

Yup. From our FAQ:

I don’t want / can’t have fibre at my place, can I get ADSL or VDSL?

We always set you up with the best connection available at your place. If you’re in an area where fibre is available but you don’t yet have a connection, you shouldn’t have to worry - we’ll give you a temporary ADSL or VDSL connection (depending on availability) while you wait for fibre to be installed.

If you don’t want the best available connection for another reason (for instance, maybe your landlord won’t let you get fibre installed) just give us a ring on 0800 4 SKINNY to discuss it, and we’ll see what we can do!

So basically if you want a different connection type, you can ask us - and if it's within reason (and your example cited probably is) we'll suss it for you.

At this point in time, there's no cost in switching to fibre when it becomes available in your area :D

You should have a pretty good idea about fibre becoming available in your street by the weeks-long parade of people coming and digging up bits of the street and putting fibre in the holes, but there's also often a leaflet drop / mail campaign by Chorus or LFCs or ISPs letting you know about the new availability. You can also use the address checker on our site to check your own address - we update it frequently based on Chorus and LFC information. In case it becomes available but doesn't show on our address checker, you can always give us a ring and we can check for you.
