$11 would be price increase for us.  $10 is standard where we go and from memory we only pay $15 for Gold Lounge.

@lookout: There's no reason ticket prices are so high just supply and demand. Our local: West City (Henderson) Event is $8.50. They dropped prices when New Lynn Reading opened ($10 tickets). Reading is far nicer however.

The West City ones are good for a nice cheap and quiet Sunday morning movie, whilst everyone is still sleeping or at church.

But you dont have to use all 4, they are valid for 6 months.  You could buy 4, then go twice with your partner in 6 months...

My local cinema charges $3 for each ticket as a booking fee if you book online. So if you are buying 4 tickets, you are having to pay $12 extra which is the price of another ticket. However if you phone up which takes a lot more staff time etc, they dont' charge it. Really backwards. The other thing that annoys me is cinemas that don't have dedicated ticket counters. So you have to wait in line for people to also buy food and drink with their tickets which can slow things down a lot. So if you got to the cinema with 10 minutes to spare before it started, but then have to wait in line for 25 minutes for the tickets, you can miss the beginning.This didn't used to be the case, as cinemas used to have dedicated ticket counters and food counters.  I can see why people avoid cinemas these days, as it can be a real hassle, and to be honest I think the picture is often better on a big screen TV. The only advantage is possibly 3D on good 3D movies.

The machines are at Hoyts Wairau Park in Auckland. This alone has singularly ensured that I will almost never go to an Event Cinema again.

Never seen the vending machines. However I believe they have the tickets with the refreshments, because there are huge margins on those, so that is where they make a lot of the money.  So every single person buying tickets is asked if they want food. Whereas a dedicate ticket area means they potentially don't get to make that extra money.  But it means the line is very slow moving. This means the only way to quickly  buy tickets is online or over the phone. I wouldn't mind vending machines if it actually was quick , and easy to use, and there weren't any addon fees / 'fee creep'. Usability of these ticketing systems is often not very good. 

The last time I went to the cinema was about a week ago, and went with kids. Waited inline for about 20 minutes, only to be told when I was served, that the movie had sold out. The problem is they didn't update the screen, to say it had sold out. They apologized but said that to update the screen, would mean they would have to close the counter while they updated it. I mean it is 2017, how about hiring enough staff, or have it automated. So I didn't end up giving them my business, and just hired an online movie instead. I have heard similar stories from others, and ironically I have heard that people just go home and download the film.
