So.... can anyone answer this? If I went and got one of these on the 1 gb plan for $49 and 1/2 price for 6 months, after the 1/2 price period went up to full price could I change to 200mb plan? Would they charge me to do this and make me sign a further 24 month contract?

I don’t know in this specific case, but normally for broadband plans you can change to whatever plan you like, but you are only allowed one change per month (because of billing system limitations)
This is true whether you are on a contract or not.

I don’t know if it would be the same for mobile data. Just call 123 and they will be able to tell you.

the iPhone has AGPS. google it if you don't believe me. i think agps is used to give more accurate info especially when indoors when gps sometimes doesn't work.

Jama: Would that be AGPS then which requires 'operator location based services'? Very different to real GPS.

does it still freeze? have u rang telecom or the maker of this device? how much KBps do you download at?

freitasm: The new Watcher is cool - but it freezes on Windows Vista.

I am currently posting from a T-Stick connection, all works fine, but as soon as the Watcher reports the connection it won't respond to any mouse clicks or keyboard actions. The only way out is to force close the application.

BAU plan transfer rules should apply. As you would be moving from a tier 2 plan to a tier 1 plan within the first 12 months of your contract term, a fee of $100 (+GST) per tier moved (dropped) would apply. Your existing contract term would stand (i.e. from the date you originally signed up to the 1GB plus plan. After 12 months there is NO fee to change plans (except when moving to a 200MB+ or 1GB+ from a non + plan).

Thanks for that info nzbnw..... I had a moment so I called them. The young girl in CS told me it would cost me $49.95 incl GST to change down after 6 months ?? so I will make sure I get that in writing when I get the T Stick in the next day or 2.

24 - 22 months remaining - $199
21 - 13 months remaining - $99
21 -1 month remianing - $50

And only $49 to change down a tier? (I might double check this too)

Telecom must have changed their pricing across the board for the T-Stick, as all these costs are wayyy cheaper than their standing termination costs. Looks like they're really confident in it....its a great sign.

If you go into a store and physical sign the contract it will clearly state costs for moving down tiers, but always good to confirm.

Definatly good to confirm...as when I worked in the stores we had a generic connection agreement which stipulates all the associated fee's etc, and I hope they amend this if the charges are all different for the T-Stick. Well...they legally have to. It's just that from experience, the retail stores can be at the bottom of the food chain for the company, in terms of little oddities and inconcistancies like that can sometimes go unnoticed.

Hey there -

Can confirm that the fees to transfer the T-stick from 1GB+ to 200 MB+ in the first year of plan follow the same pattern as other data card contracts. i.e. $100 bucks. Free to change in the second year.

This came from within Telecom 126 - normally more reliable than 123

Well I picked one of these up yesterday from the Telecom store on Lambton Quay, I must commend Telecom on having pleasant and efficient staff to deal with. Not to go off topic too much but I wasn't expecting it after the kind of service I have had in a certain other phone company's stores.

Getting it to work in Ubunutu on my EeePC was quite easy. Downloaded the driver from the support page and a quick compile and install was all that was needed. I did run into one minor problem, after disconnecting the modem I wasn't able to reconnect it without a suspend/resume cycle on the laptop. Only a slight inconvenience considering how I use the laptop, I don't know that I'll worry about troubleshooting it further.

I got one of these today, works great!! Much better than having to use CafeNet all the time, and works out cheaper.

Just one question tho, are there any free sites that telecom run such as yahoo-xtra or anything that is free traffic? I highly doubt it, but that would be one way to get me to use their news service over others

Hi,Please can anyone help? I have new Toshoba laptop running visat 2 GB ram.
The watcher freezes.
have uninstalled, rebooted, re installed and rebooted, disabled all
other modems and network ports, disabled alerts, and no luck. Watcher is
still freezing after it connects, meaning I have to use task manager to
force it to close upon exit. Internet is working.
I have checked the version that is installed on my computer and it is the
same version as on the Sierra website. What can you suggest might be doing it?
Have rung telecom and no real joy.
data usage is important- better to get 2 of these than go over the limit! I would be glad of any help
