"Maybe the Messenger team at Google are the same team who thought that Spark selling a Bebo phone and using Yahoo were good ideas." Tee hee.

I wonder if the final choice of handset came down to Bebo phone or Microsoft Kin? Did anyone remind them that Yahoo were run by execs so idiotic that they turned down Google at $1m? & again for $5b? You'd have to wonder "Hmm, what could possibly go wrong?"

It goes back further than that, "do we use an industry standard (GSM) that is wide spread adoption any improvement will include a migration path from that or do we use a rinky-dinky proprietary standard (CDMA2000) that a handful of countries use and make roaming next to impossible without getting a special handset" - guess which one Telecom (now Spark) went for. Then there was the move from Microsoft (MSN) to Yahoo - if I was an executive and knew nothing other what what I read in the news, why would I want to hook my wagon to business on life support when I could team up with Google which is the rising star? then throw on ferret and other unmitigated disasters with the culmination of all those involved getting golden parachutes on the way out. Sigh, I really am in the wrong job if it is possible to muck up so badly that they let you leave with a golden parachute.
