Is there any advantage for the average user to go on 5g?

spark aren't charging for 5G, but are requiring you moving up a few levels of plan 🤔🤔 that's basically charging in a different form..

to be fair the $39 plan probably doesn't have that high enough bandwidth allocation before slowing down to be worth it.

That doesn't sound right.

Then again they only list the $79.99 plans you mentioned but this says all spark plans so yeah I'd imagine the less expensive plans would be included in this phrasing.

DM me your Spark number and I'll take a look. It should be available on all plans.

It's also available to all 5G approved devices that we've tested (as device manufacturers also need to enable it on their device for our network).

But that's the kicker right there. Approved, spark needs to approve them, and given there are so many different phones these days supporting 5G is spark going to go and approve them all? from previous comments it doesn't look like it.

so a lot of people are going to have 5G capable phones they cant use on spark.

Same thing happens with LTE-A.

Really needs to be standard for network to send to the devices what it wants it to be capable of.

This whole thing of devices hsving their own little lookup tables is arcadic.
A third party device could be forced but requires root etc.

It’s an industry thing and certainly not something imposed by Spark specifically. We work through as many devices as we can, generally targeting the popular models first. We work with the manufacturers to enable 5G etc in their devices.

Some manufacturers may have different policies around this this and may not need to be specifically enabled - but we can’t vouch for that heir performance and/or functionality etc.

With the complexity in devices and networks it’s not that simple to switch things on.

I hope this helps explain things.

Thought I’d upload a speed test result I got on my iPhone 12 Pro Max on 5G - was pretty impressed by the result. This was on Auckland’s waterfront during a Sunday evening. Usually it’d be quite busy around that time but CBD is still kinda deserted.

The latency measured by these apps (speedtest) are affected by network
settings. The settings are primarily that way to manage battery life on handsets.

Is there a trick and/or delay getting 5G Enabled on your service? Was travelling through Dunedin yesterday and couldn't see to get my 12 Pro to switch to 5G at all (Spark Retail service using eSIM)

No trick really - it should activate straightaway automatically (and does for most), however a few can take a bit longer to enable. DM me your number and I can check.

Time frame on Spark turning it on in Christchurch? Also this has me curious since I have a Oneplus 8 and might be interested in 3 or so months after Kogan.
