sbiddle:

Standard SLA on a residential fibre connection is next day. That's just the way it has always been, and how it will always be.

Chorus offer an enhanced SLA on all business and small business plans and that option is available to every RSP for only a few dollars more per month for a small business plan vs a mass market residential plan. Like many things in life it's the simple reality for anybody that if something is critical then you need to ensure you're on the most appropriate plan for your requirements.

But in an industry that is a race to the bottom, no one wants to pay for it, and then want that level of service when it all goes wrong

Good to hear they got it sorted, but just got to remember at the moment too, if you're not an essential worker, you'll be put on the waiting list regardless if working from home or not.

Also worth noting, especially with little ones, that the light in that fibre can do some serious damage if you aim it into your eyes. Might want to make sure it's kid-proof going forward.

Note that some ISPs will give you mobile data to a nominated mobile because of a fault. That should be enough to limp along for a few days.

I'd disagree with this. If the price difference between home and business connections was only the few dollars a month mentioned I imagine many on here would gratefully pay for that for the benefit of the SLA. Unfortunately it's not the case. Business connections often tend to be double or more than the price of residential connections. There needs to be some kind of business-lite or WFH plan where you can pay +$X as an SLA add-on.

Cost price mentioned above was only a few dollars more. How does this translate into 30-50%?

Hi, so Spark Unplan Fibre 100 residential naked (100/20) if >120G per month used is $90 and $70 if < 60G, so lets say a keen/typical user will pay $90

Business 100 Naked (100/100) is $89.87 if <120G and $99.87 if > 120G.

So I think a only few $ represents the diff.

Cyril

I quickly looked at a vodafone one which was about $30 more than a residential plan

and

because business plan via spark

Fibre MAX Naked uncapped = $119

Residential plan via spark

Unplan Fibre Max***120GB+ = $110

see your comment below

I think boosacnoodle is referring to sbiddle's claim of enchanced SLA pricing being only a few dollars more on small business/business plans.

Which Chorus/LFC Bitstream tier & SLA do those Spark and Vodafone plans come with over and above their comparative residential plans?

Also note business plans can be advertised ex. GST so Spark's 100/100 $99.87 is $114.85 inc. GST so comparison would be $90 (res.) vs $114.85 (bus.) just under 30% extra.

Don't forget those additional fees are covering priority RSP support as well, that has a cost associated with it. Nobody works for free.

You then need to add the SLA on top of that once you have a business plan

EDIT: You do do get slightly better service without a bolt-on SLA
